"im back, im back."
heloise panted a little after bursting into the room.
"heloise, fuck you, you scared me so bad."
jeno breathed out, barely able to form wholly audible words. he held her in a sudden embrace. taking her by surprise.
"jeno, im sorry, we can talk about everything in a second. for now, i have something i need to do."
she dumped the contents of the bag on the table. "where did you get this shit?"
a room full of wide eyes looked confused at the miscellaneous items. the one thing that caught all of their eyes was a glass bottle.
the bottle was clear, cloudy water inside it. a yellow label was wrapped around it and the label was decorated with a black skull and crossbones. it was a poison of some sorts.
"so what you're saying is that, she poisoned your dad and now you need to get her jailed for that to make their win invalid."
"explain how it would be invalid again?" "if any one of the members is facing heavy criminal charges, the win is invalid and it's been a rule for the longest time to avoid unnecessary police attention to the races."
"so if we could get focus on what taeryeong did to your dad then their win would be invalid and we'd get justice for your dad."
she nodded frantically. "but how?"
"we have to call the police, but we can't because the racers... and everyone else who just lives here. we can't risk that."
"but then how will this work?"
everyone was silent. there were six people in the room and none of them knew what to do.
heloise and jeno made eye contact. he saw the look in her eyes. the wavering uncertainty replaced with knowing. as if she were communicating telepathically with him.
it was as if his eye contact was all the confirmation she needed, as she smiled sadly and stopped biting her fingernails to say,
"we have to call the police, its our only option."
