After the long winter
Flowers on the floor, at my feet, on my face
Petals on my pillow
Bedroom floor, bedroom flower, a shower of petals
Blowing thru my open window in the breeze
A blanket of blossoms threaded together
Blooming in the bathtub
Chains of flowers, crowns of flowers
Strung across the ceiling, stuck to the walls
I am slowly being put back together in the warm weather
With hot liquid gold, healing, sealing in the cracks
So now my scars can sparkle
First summer night, I am aching in the heat
I remember when summer nights meant running in the street, & in the fields, skinny skinned knees
The heat is also a hug, comforting me
I'll cover my scabs with star stickers soon
Festoon my room, bedazzle my body until I forget about all the ugliness beneath
Learn again to breathe, to sleep so I can really dream, but also how to wake without a shake
Scratch poems on my arms, it won't do any harm
I'll learn to swim again, instead of just treading water
Pottery is poetry is me, & I'll patch up with pretty things
Next time you see me, I hope you don't recognize me
