For Trans Awareness Week
They tell me I don't know my own history,
Or our history.
They don't want to accept that it's endogenous, that I'm androgynous,
Anomalous.
Why is it so hard to accept?
Why is it so hard to understand?
Some people are simply not "woman" or "man."
There's no "gender agenda" or devious plan.
Some people are simply trans,
As I am.
We're not a menace, malicious, or a monolith.
We simply demand the right to exist.
Just like the cis.
And no cliche phrase, like "it's just a phase,"
Can make us stop being who we are.
I'm tired of hearing you claim
That I am to blame for your pain
Because I'm not the same
As you thought I was.
Imagine how it is for me.
Imagine a world where you can't be free,
You can't even be.
That's the world I live in, that you help uphold
To stamp out those of us who don't fit the mould.
But we've been here since the days of old
And we will remain.
So can't you just try to see through my eyes
For one day?
A foray, to see how it feels when you say what you say.
I may be negated, hated, excommunicated,
But I'm here to stay.
