Jace was practically bouncing as he followed behind the doctor at what felt like a snail's pace to the girl's room. He couldn't explain, even if someone were to ask, why he felt such a connection to this girl. She was beautiful, yes, but Jace had seen many beautiful girls in his day. It felt like something more than just her beauty, maybe it was the simple fact that he had been the one to find her and carry her all the way to Doc's office. Maybe the fact that she didn't seem to belong to anyone was what struck home with him. Either way, Jace felt deep in his soul that the mysterious beauty was somehow essential to life as he knew it.

Finally arriving at her room the doctor pushed the door open and took a small step in. From where he stood behind the doctor Jace could just see her hand move to cup her cheek underneath her head. "See that!" Jace said in a hushed whisper. "She moved. What does it mean Doc? Is she going to wake up soon?"

The doctor merely shook his head and walked further into the room. Jace watched from the doorway as the doctor reached for the clipboard and began to scan it's contents quickly. He made no sound only a slight humming noise as he reached the end of each page. Soon Jace tired of the doctor's scanning and chose instead to watch the girl. He found that if he watched closely every few moments she would twitch or shift slightly and despite the doctor's less than ecstatic reaction to her previous movements Jace was convinced that they were a good sign.

A good five minutes after the two had entered the room the doctor began to nod his head slightly. "Don't get your hopes up but I think this may be the turn around point. She's stayed relatively the same since you found her and normally after two days that's not a good thing. However, from the charts you took this morning it seems she's made some vital improvements."

Jace couldn't help it, he jumped in the air again. The doctor always had a habit of being harshly realistic, after all in their line of work casualties were not unheard of. So, for him to admit there was even a possibility of survival usually meant the outcome was looking bright. "Is there anything we can do for her Doc?"

"No. We just have to play the waiting game now. This little one's strong. She made it this far so I've little doubt she would give up now." The doctor looked at the small frame lying underneath the thin blankets and a shiver ran down his spine.

"Can you feel it too, Doc?" Jace asked in a hushed voice.

"Feel what?"

"I don't know. Maybe it's stupid but I just have this feeling that she's more than meets the eye..."

The doctor looked at Jace for a long moment and then quietly said, "Me too, Jace, me too."

After several minutes of the easy silence he had grown used to with the doctor Jace slipped off to his next class with his mind still back in the small hospital room.
