"I don't know, Doc, you should have seen her." After Jace had gotten back from his run in with Bree Doc had fixed his nose up. They sat in the little office, Jace on the big wooden desk and the doctor in the adjacent chair, as they talked.
"I figured that little one had some fire in her somewhere." The doctor said with a chuckle.
"Fire? I'd say more like force, Doc." Jace tried to hold back the smile that was threatening to show. Even though he'd suffered a painful injury he found he just couldn't stop smiling when he remembered Bree's reaction. She definitely had fire that was for sure.
The last bell of the day rang and Jace stood up. "I guess I'd better go grab my books, I kinda missed a few classes there."
"Make sure you don't miss too much for this hospital, Jace, you can't have a future without an education."
"I know, Doc, thanks." Jace pushed out of the room, heading to class. He wanted to get his books, yes, but more importantly he wanted to see if he had been granted access, on Doc's behalf of course, to see the files. Despite Bree waking up and being able to go on with her life Jace was still curious. He came from a warm and close knit family himself, so when no one came looking for Bree it struck a chord deep inside him. What was worse was that she showed no signs of surprise when he broke the news to her. It only took him a few minutes to clear his locker of the things he needed and speak to the few instructors before he was able to head to the office just off the main foyer.
"Hello?" He called.
"Over here, dear." The file keeper was a thin, gray-haired old lady who reminded Jace of a stereotypical grandmother. She was always sweet, kind and loaded with candy.
"I was wondering about a response on my request to access the file. I have a name now if that helps."
"Hmmm...just give me a second, dear, I'll have a look." Jace waited expectantly until the elderly lady found a small brown file in the depths of her drawer.
"Ah-ha. Let me see, let me see, hmmm. Oh! Here it is...Jace Andrews...hospital...main foyer...oh look at that - permission granted." She handed him the slip with a smile, "Now what file is it you'd like to access?"
"Bree Micheals'"
After another few minutes of searching the file keeper pulled out another brown folder but this time with a red x on the cover. "Now Jace, this may not hold everything you're looking for. Her parents were part of a project at another Elite Academy that allowed her family to keep their files restricted. It will tell you a lot about their history on earth of course but in terms of our new planet, well, there's very little."
Jace just nodded already skimming the file as he headed out.
Bree Micheals
DOB: February 31, 2024
Parents: Marie and James Micheals
Siblings: ---
The rest was about three pages explaining how Bree's family had been heavily involved in something called the "army" back on earth. It documented every place their ancestors had lived and all their children, none of which mattered to Jace. What was interesting though was, as the keeper had mentioned, many things were simply not known about Bree. It listed her bar rating, grade point average and skill/fitness level as unknown. Even her hair and eyes color were listed as R for restricted. Jace wondered why someone would bother to keep that unimportant information to themselves.
