LAURICE

I was actually in the middle of grabbing a piece of a dessert topping but didn't continue. Instead, I accepted his hand and took my bag with me. As he guided me towards the dance floor, I smiled at the guests on the way.

Saying that the attention wasn't on us would be a lie, because the guests are actually talking about Christopher Jackson's presence in this party. I was just added into the mix now that we're about to dance. But I decided to just ignore it, he's Kuya's friend naman and he's nice from what I've seen.

"I'm sorry if this is going to bring some unwanted attention for days," he apologized and placed his right hand below my left shoulder.

"It's alright. Etiquette," sabi ko at pinatong yung kaliwang kamay ko—barely actually, dahil hawak ko yung bag ko.

Usually, pinapahawak ko kay Kate yung bag ko pag kasama ko s'ya. But she's having her own fun with the other guests last time I saw her.

"But this is not etiquette."

"What is?" Tanong ko as we started swaying to the tune.

"Me saying that you look gorgeous," sabi n'ya. "I mean I'm not being nice for telling you that. I'm simply telling the truth."

Nagsalubong yung kilay ko sa kan'ya kasi...I don't know if it's just my eyes playing tricks on me but he looked nervous. So, I just laughed it off and said thanks.

The tune that was being played is quite long, around 4 to 5 minutes, I think.

A conversation is definitely needed to keep things from being awkward or uncomfortable. Kaya naman tiningnan ko na lang s'ya, trying to look at the brand of his suit, watch, or anything I can talk about. But my eyes trailed up to his face and I noticed how well he was groomed for someone who claimed to be dragged here. His brushed-up hair and smile which I can't tell if it's genuine or fake.

"To be fair, you look gorgeous too," I said before I can even think of what to say.

I don't know where that came from but he seemed to have taken it as a compliment.

"Thank you," he chuckled. "I do hope we're at least acquaintances, you'll be seeing more of me in the following months."

"You're my brother's friend and you're talking like you haven't eaten or spent a few nights in our home. So, yes, but what do you mean by that?"

"I'd be working in the International Court for a year. I'm starting next week."

"Oh, really? Licensed lawyer ka na rin diba?" Tanong ko.

He graduated from law school last year and yung result ng licensure exam ng Great Emerald for lawyers, last month or the month before ata lumabas. I can't remember exactly but it actually became a big deal internationally online, since he wasn't just top 1.

I think he also broke their country's record for the highest rating for passers?

"How woulld you do that though? Ang demanding ng Royal Duties." Tanong ko.

"Don't ask me, hindi ko rin alam kung anong ginawa ko at ako na may pinakamataas na grade ngayon doon," sagot n'ya na hindi ko napigilang matawa.

He was quite fun to talk to that I was actually talking to him even until the party ended. Magkasama rin kaming naghintay sa sundo namin.

"See you when I see you?" Tanong n'ya.

"See you when I see you," sabi ko na may ngiti saka sumakay sa limousine.

I woke up the next day with numerous notifications from my close friends. And I don't get drunk at dinner parties so I know that I am most probably the Internet's topic now. Together with Christopher.
