LAURICE

"Your Highness?" I heard Kate.

"Hm?"

"Prince Philip sent you something," Kate said and I turned to look.

"What's that?" I asked.

When Kate gave me the box, I saw that it was from a known international brand that sells scents. Pag-open ko sa box, there was a jar with a cover and when I lifted it up, the body of the glass had a sticker with the brand name and word peppermint. Then I took the lid off and saw that it was a candle which gave off the smell of peppermint.

Nilapit ko naman sa nose ko and honestly, I like the smell, kaya naman I gestured for Kate to smell it as well by holding the jar close to her.

"What do you think?" I asked.

"It smells good," she answered, nodding.

Tumango naman ako then put the jar down to get what seemed like serum bottles from the box. The label said peppermint oil and it was only then did I notice that there was an envelope. Pag-open ko, there was a handwritten note from Prince Philip, most probably.

I heard peppermint scents help people focus. Good luck on your board exam. It read.

I returned the envelope inside the box and walked towards the side table and got the lighter from inside the drawer.

"What time should I serve your snack, Your Highness?" Kate asked.

"Maybe...two hours later?" I answered, unsure.

Still, Kate just said that she would. And I told her that I'll just call her if I wanted something to eat earlier than what I said.

The whiff of peppermint then spread through the room as soon as the wick caught fire. I set the jar down on the coffee table where all my review materials are neatly stacked and took the remote to choose a playlist from the TV. Then I moved towards the table and chair by the window to resume studying.

Normally, Kate just knocks on my door and places my coffee wordlessly. But today, she said that Kyle was asking if he could take a nap in my room because both Ate and Kuya were out on business. Pumayag naman ako and it seems Kyle was eavesdropping as he went inside the room once I agreed.

He dashed towards me, hugging me as he thanked me, followed by saying that he wouldn't be too naughty.

"Come on, I'll tuck you in," I chuckled when he kissed me on the cheek.

Do you have time? If you do, can we meet by the lake?

Christopher's text sure made my brows furrow. I mean, I literally haven't talked to him for a few days. But I was free so I said yes and asked what time, which he answered after dinner time.

So here I am, driving towards the lake and I honestly thought nga na mauuna ako because the International Court is honestly more or less an hour away.

"Hey," I called as soon as I got close.

I also noticed the smell of a burger and I almost laughed when he turned to face me while biting the burger.

"You know, you could have called me over for lunch instead of driving all the way here," I told him.

"I didn't want to bother you because I knew you were reviewing. I bought ice cream for you though," he said and handed me a paper bag.

"I see, so why?" I asked while I took out the pint of ice cream. "Chocolate caramel cookie dough?" I uttered in shock.
