LAURICE
"Don't tell me you drive here everyday to jog?" I asked when Christopher was close enough.
I was on the lot again, just finished my laps and I saw his car parked by the lake.
"No, not really. Kapag hindi lang ganon ka-busy."
"You literally fly once a week back to Great Emerald for a hearing," I pointed out.
"Alright fine, mga 1 to 3 times a week. Eh ikaw? Surely you have a gym in the palace?" Tanong n'ya.
Umusog naman ako para makaupo s'ya and I began unpacking my breakfast.
"Si Kuya lang gumagamit non. Though Ate Ellis and I have a studio for
yoga and pilates," I said. "I jog if I feel like jogging."
We just talked about things we had in common. The conversation took a turn though when he talked about wanting to offer his legal services for free but can't just do that because of his responsibilities. I knew what he meant because, even though I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Accountancy, I wouldn't be able to work in an accounting firm. Although I'd be sure to keep an eye over the expenditures of the Royal Family and the government.
I wouldn't want to have a situation that Great Amber faced more or less 2 years ago. Just the thought that one of the people responsible for it was right under their nose?
Every country in the Great Kingdoms' Continent actually checked their record history dahil sa nangyari, in fear of having the same situation.
"It's pretty hard to be hands on today unlike before na student pa lang. Especially legal problems?" I said, trying to imagine just how hard it is.
"Yeah, I have friends in law school though, they could take at least 3 pro-bono cases a month sa firm nila. I'd like to do the same."
"But the crown can't just be set aside nor taken off or else things get more complicated than it already is," I said and looked at him.
Lumingon naman s'ya and he chuckled before nodding.
"Um...actually," I began.
"Actually?"
"I've had this idea since nalaman ko that you took that domestic abuse case."
"What idea?"
"A branch of Royal Hands in Great Emerald?" I said with an awkward smile. "And hearing your sentiments earlier, it's going to be difficult for you to build your own law firm, since you're literally going to be King someday."
"I'd like to say that I can pass it to my brother but the kid wants to be an artist and I don't want to ruin that," he laughed but I could tell he was serious.
I didn't really know how to respond to that joke of his because he seemed a little conflicted. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned na he is to be King someday...
"I actually have drafts of the needed documents for it, I'll give it to you if you want. I've been thinking of expanding the scope of the org and your existence just gave me the idea." I said.
"Existence talaga? You know what, consider this as we have agreed to the terms." He laughed as he offered his right hand for a handshake. "Does this mean that I'm sort of the head of the legal department—or however it's gonna be called—of the org?"
"Yeah," I laughed and shook his hand, "technically you're the later-official only lawyer within the org. But we're going to have to talk about this to make sure it goes well. I'm also going to reach out to other lawyers about this."
