With my eyes closed, my hand searched for Julie. I dont really have any idea of what time it was. I just feel so cold and I need to hold her to keep me warm. She stirred and faced me and I heard her whispered, "Hey," and then I opened my eyes and met her gaze.
"Hi," i kissed her forehead and i saw her bit her lower lip. She wrapped her arms around me and after a long minutes, when she thought i had fallen back to sleep, she loosen her grip again and my forehead creased. She's about to sit when i held her by the hand and asked, "Where are you going?"
"May kukunin lang ako sa baba," she flashed her sweetest smile and left the room.
The silence grew louder and the clock ticks seem so fast and Julie hasnt came back yet. I started to get worry. I pushed away the quilt and as soon as I was on my feet to stand, there she came into the room holding a round cake in her hands as she sing the happy birthday song. Her contagious smile grew bigger when she saw that i really was so surprised.
"Happy birthday, happy birthday. Happy birthday to you," she did the last part and moved near me.
"Last night was a blast. And now, this!" i smiled before closing my eyes and making a wish.
"Now, blow!" she excitedly offered the cake and the colorful candles were starting to melt.
As soon as i made my wish, i blew the candles which i think were complete 26 pieces.
"Yey!" she beamed. "Happy birthday, baby!" she let out a soft laugh and gave me a tight embrace.
"Thank you so much, love. You dont have to do this, anyway. A day with you would be enough for this special day," i held her hands after putting the cake aside the bedside table.
"About that...." she started hesitantly.
"Oh! Will be you be busy today?" I asked curiously. She looked at me immediately and said, "No. It's not that busy, babe. I just need to attend a meeting today about a certain project and after which im free to go which means a movie for us two and a candle lit romantic dinner," she smiled. I sighed.
"Hey," she held my face. Im okay, though. Im just a little anxious about Julie. She's working too hard. I tried talking to her for a several times bout taking a month or two vacation but she once disagreed to it.
"Im so sorry," she apologized.
"No. Dont apologize, love. Nag aalala lang din kasi ako sayo. You're too busy and.."
"Are you sure this isn't about your birthday bluh?"
I shook my head.
"Im so sorry I cant eat lunch with you," bigla na din siyang napabuntong hininga.
"Love, hindi problema yan. I'll wait for you hanggang sa matapos yung meeting ninyo, okay?" i smiled. A wide one.
"Sigurado ka ba?" nakataas kilay niyang tanong.
With me lifting my right hand, i answered, "Promise!"
And there she pulled me into another embrace.
She dragged me into the kitchen and it was astonishing to see a table full of yummy foods. There're different boxes of pizzas, a lemonade, a cheese and chocolate croisant, a little round black forest cake and other type of cakes and... My eyes started to feast.
"Bakit ang dami naman?" I started laughing at bigla siyang sumimangot.
"Ayaw mo?"
"Siyempre gusto ko, love. The thing is, pano natin uubusin toh?"
