Kabanata 38
Purity
Have you ever been in a near-death situation that you just closed your eyes as you accepted your defeat?
I had opened my vision the moment my body felt the water. It was lonely yet so calming under the it, like it was whispering something within, like some unheard voices were singing along the sinking. I kept on falling in the deepest part of it. I have accepted my defeat without any hesitation. I knew that in that moment... I was going to die.
I was.
But I was wrong.
I have captured Alcaeus trying to swim, chasing me as I kept on sinking. He was determined to hold my hands, he was determined to catch me, to save me. The necklace floated above my body in the water, I somehow seen a light after it. I was so weak, I didn't know what to do, I didn't know if I wanted to be save. But still, I flashed a farewell smile at him. So that when I die in this situation... he could capture my smile, my thank you... because he still followed me even if its mean death or nothing.
I felt the shortness of my breath. I was struggling to breathe. I kept on going down, I couldn't hear anything at this moment, everything became sluggish in my vision. I wasn't able to view his face because of the light. I couldn't have a sight on everything. I wasn't aware on what he was doing. And in that moment... I knew... that no one could save me. The cold and dark ambiance mixed as it hugged me. I felt the loneliness within. Deep down within my soul.
I wasn't in my right consciousness to know what happened next. I felt him holding my hand as he tried to swim as long as he can, as farther as he can. Then all that I knew was we were now able to be seen on the surface of the water.
"Ayon sila, Sir! Tulungan niyo!"
I could hear the voices of the people shouting as they panicked. The waves kept on hitting us along with the rain, but Alcaeus never failed to hold me firmly to secure me from the waves. I could see him struggling so I held his hand also, because he might drown if he didn't have any support on his way. His eyes were red now, so is mine. I could even taste the saltiness of the sea because of its never calming waves.
"Alcaeus!" I shouted with all of my voice upon feeling that I had let him go.
My eyes were opened as I kept on scanning the whole liquid area. It didn't help to mitigate the pain in my eyes because of the salt water. I was confounded at the thought that I had lost him! I was about to capitulate my hope, but someone from above lifted me with full force... and I then saw Alcaeus' hands giving me the help that I needed. With all force, he managed to drag me on the boat.
I froze to death after realizing what happened.
I lost my balance that made my body fall on the floor.
Tears were forming in my eyes as my body trembled hard. My mouth became agape because of another traumatic experience.
Alcaeus covered my body with a towel. Without any word, he sat on the floor and hugged me. No one dared to talk, and despite of the massive crowd, we didn't stop our hearts to become one as they cry out for another day. I dug my head on his shoulder. I saw how his eyes narrowed, nevertheless, he still cupped my face after wiping the tears on my eyes.
