Patience

"Can I just send my part? I really need to go home. Someone is waiting for me," I pleaded to my classmates who were now busy attending our papers. 

Misty looked delight as she glanced at me. Wanton was beside her eyeing me, wanting to ask where am I heading. I just shrugged my shoulder when I did not hear anything from them. I grabbed a donut and continued doing my part. 

"You want to go home, Martiza?" Wanton asked me the moment he had the chance. 

I weirdly stared at him. 

It has been 4 years since I moved here in Australia. I am a graduating student. And I know this kind of tactics from men already, several men tried to hit on me but I am clearly reserved. Add the fact that they were too young for me! Wanton has been showing affection towards me. I know that I look young, but boy! I am on my 30's! He's on his 20's! Pambihira! Kaya tinatawanan ako ni Alcaeus kapag nagku-kwento ako, e!

"Yeah. I still have some things to be done," I quickly dismissed our small talk. 

We had a break. I used that opportunity to talk to Misha again. Everyone was busy eating donut while I was trying to find my way to her. Paano ba naman! Pinaulanan ako ng mga  tanong ni Wanton kaya hindi ako makalapit sa kanilang lahat! Kung ano-ano ang tinatanong sa akin ng isang 'to, kailangan ko nang umuwi dahil naghihintay na sa akin si Alcaeus!

"Misha!" I shouted and went near her. 

"Oh, Martiza!" She copied like she was pleased. 

"I guess we're done for today? Can I go home already? Someone is really waiting for me and I wish I was kidding!" I laughed. 

"Oh. You won't talk to Wanton for a while?" She asked worriedly. 

"I know that you like Wanton for me, Misha, but I already have someone," I then winked at her after saying that. 

"Martiza, I know that you are just making up excuses because of the age gap! Babe, c'mon! Age doesn't matter these days!"

I laughed awkwardly. 

"Oh. It does! Bye!"

In a swift motion, I grabbed my bag and exited her room. I heard Wanton shouting, calling my name but I did not even mind looking back at him. It is night already! Hindi ako pwedeng pumalpak! It's September 3! It's Alcaeus' birthday! Buong araw na akong walang paramdam sa kan'ya kaya kailangan ko talagang bumawi. 

I rode a taxi and in a moment, he dropped me in Sydney. I did not waste more time anymore. I ran towards the elevator and aggressively pressed the button. When I have reached my apartment, I randomly threw my bag and arranged my laptop. 

I lit the candle on the cake as I waited for him to appear on my screen. I kept on waiting, not until I got tired. I placed the cake on another side and I tied y head into a bun. I was waiting for him to appear, but it took more minutes for him to answer my call. But I am still happy because he answered my call, I know very well that he has been very busy because a tragedy hit his family again. It was all fine now. He's taking care of everything now. 

"Happy birthday, Love!" I greeted him as I held the cake in my hands. 

His smile widened when he saw my preparation. 

"Happy birthday to you... Happy birthday to you..." I sang repeatedly. "Make a wish now, Love!"

"I wish to finally see you now," the tired was evident on his voice.
