I'll be updating on Monday as well as I made this chapter too long so I split it in half

KAI POV

I rushed to Lloyd's side. I caught his eye and he smiled at me. My heart fluttered.

I'm not okay.

Pixal and Zane were getting along alright now that Nya was helping them move the mattress. Lloyd and I grabbed a corner each and shuffled the mattress to the living room, letting it fall over with a plop on the floor. Then we all stared in shock at Cole, who was standing where we had just dropped the mattress. He gave us a sullen look.

"Seriously guys? Am I invisible to you?" he grumbled.

"Sorry Cole.. No, of course not." Lloyd said hurriedly.

Cole let out a short laugh. "I'm joking." he muttered as he grabbed the bag of donuts which were now sitting on the couch.

"I'm gonna leave you guys to do this." he waved his hand at the mattress. "Does anyone else want one?" he asked, reaching out his hand with the bag of donuts.

His hands are working again, that's good.

"Sure." Nya replied as she snatched a donut from the bag. I refused and so did Pix, Zane and Lloyd. Cole shrugged and headed out to the kitchen.

I furrowed my eyebrows as I saw Cole nearly drop the bag of donuts and curse under his breath. I hoped we could find a way to turn him back to a human one day. I hated seeing him like this, being a ghost was clearly tough.

I'll have to check in with him later, see how he is going.

"You got the blankets Pix?" Nya asked as she munched on her donut.

"Yes, they are still in the bedroom though." Pixal replied.

"Well, I'll go grab them, you and Zane go help Lloyd and my brother move their mattresses." Nya replied.

I saw Lloyd stiffen instantly. "Do we need all the mattresses?" he asked.

I think I know why he is worried.

He didn't want anyone else seeing his room in the state it was in. Or the stained bandages on the floor...

I had noticed them and I felt sick. I had kept my cool obviously, but it had been really hard to stay calm, because I was terrified.

Of losing him.

It's clearly been happening for a long time.

I should have known. I should have done something sooner.

Lloyd continued speaking hurriedly.

"Mine is a single but Nya has a double and so does Kai, we could just squeeze them together and share, I don't think all the mattresses will fit in the living room anyway."

"Good point." I agreed. "Let's grab my mattress first, we can probably leave Lloyd's, we won't need it." I met Lloyd's gaze and he gave me a grateful smile before looking away again.

Zane nodded. "I did the calculations, we will fit exactly three double mattresses and then we have the couch, which Nya said she wanted to claim, as it's quite comfy."

"Fair enough, three doubles will be enough space for the rest of us." I replied.

Lloyds still looked worried. I touched his arm lightly in a comforting gesture. Lloyd didn't realise it was me there and he flinched. Instantly panic shot through me.
