The Dragons Breath

LLOYD POV

Last time I was here, things were different.

A lot different.

I looked at the bright red neon sign hanging up ahead. The name of the bar was encased within the shape of a red, fire breathing dragon.

"The dragon's breath."

That brought back memories.

It was all too familiar.

The cracked pavement beneath my feet, the homeless man sitting a few blocks away. The smell of alcohol. The incredibly loud music. I swallowed hard.

I don't want to relive the past.

I frowned as I noticed a smaller, yet lengthy, sign hanging from beneath the original. It read: Bar/Club/ Whatever you want/Pub/Topless Tuesdays.

How weird. That's a new sign.

A loud voice rang out and a hand waved to us from a seat near the back of the queue where there was a short line of people waiting to go inside.

"Hey! You made it!" Harry exclaimed, jumping to her feet. We all began lining up and Harry and Tox joined us. "I am dying to hear about how you kicked out Wu and Misako after you sent me nothing but that cryptic three worded message!" Harry shoved Kai in the shoulder. "So come on, what happened?"

I knew they had a history. Kai told me he had known Harry for a while, but he hadn't told me much about her. After today, I was getting the picture that maybe Kai was closer to Harry then I had thought previously. I shrank back a few steps to stand with Cole and Jay.

"Zane was the one who managed to pull it off. Probably ask him for the details." Kai laughed in response. "Although I did play my part in helping scare the old man away!" He shoved Harry back.

"There will be plenty of time to chat over a nice cold drink." Zane replied.

"That there will!" Harry said loudly.

Tox looked back and noticed me.

"Hey Lloyd! Are you ready to get fucked up?!" she asked excitedly. She smelt strongly of grape scented perfume. It looked like she may have had a few drinks before coming out tonight. That being said, Harry appeared a little buzzed as well.

"Not too much I hope." I laughed, hoping it would hide the nervous shudder in my voice.

Harry pulled me and Kai up together by chucking her arms over our shoulders.

"You'll be fine." Harry chuckled. "I'm guessing you don't get out that much?"

"Not really." I replied. Pulling away from Harry slowly, hoping not to seem rude.

I don't plan to make a habit of drinking again either.

Harry seemed to take my nervousness as a sign of naivety.

"You'll be fine, besides their speciality is dragon themed drinks! Right up your street hey? Plenty of stuff to choose from."

I know, I've been here before.

"Really? That's cool." I replied, feigning ignorance.

Don't be a coward! Who cares if they know! That was years ago!

But I kept silent. I did care if they knew.

Glancing over my shoulder, I saw Kai standing right behind me. He grinned. His smile gave me the courage to step up to the bouncer.
