KAI POV
"I don't remember inviting you guys. " I muttered.
" We were happy to invite ourselves, Kai, so we saved you the trouble. " Zane said calmly from the driver's seat, his voice only just heard over the sound of wind rushing past our ears in the open top car on the highway. The midday sun was beating down and the black leather seats of the car were beginning to heat up.
" And I didn't ask to be put in the back seat either! " I shouted.
Pixal, who was riding shotgun, turned around to look at me.
" We all know you can't be trusted to drive a car safely Kai, I remember the one time you did, you broke twenty-seven road rules and completely ignored my instructions! "
I folded my arms in response as Lloyd leaned over to me.
"Was it really twenty-seven?" he whispered, a mischievous glint in his eyes almost like he was enjoying seeing me getting teased.
"Shut up you!" I muttered, ruffling his hair. Lloyd laughed as he pushed me away and poked my shoulder with his finger.
"No squabbling you two, you could distract Zane." Pixal said.
"And a distracted driver is a dangerous one." Zane added.
"Well, at least this trip could be a little less boring with some danger element added to it." I muttered, looking out of the car.
We were on our way to the beach, I'd hoped just me and Lloyd could take the car ourselves, but apparently Zane and Pixal needed to go help Cyrus Borg with rebuilding some damaged vehicles and pick up a spare part for Nya's samurai suit. It was a long way to Borg's secret base, so they needed the car. They planned to drop us off at a town near the beach then pick us up later this afternoon. And they hadn't given us a choice about it.
The city had made its way to the desert and it seemed to creep by us alarmingly slowly. I wondered how on earth Zane and Pixal could stand going at such a leisurely rate, even Lloyd seemed fine with it! He was now looking at something on his new phone which Zane had brought him.
"Why are we going so slowly?" I groaned.
"This is the speed limit Kai. Unlike you, I actually have been programmed to follow the road rules like a normal, law abiding citizen."
"Are we trying to get there by tomorrow? It's not like the police come out this far anyway, everyone does 150km an hour on this road, and here we are stuck at ninety!" I argued.
"See why we didn't let him drive?" Pixal said to Lloyd. Who giggled in response. I frowned.
"Don't gang up on me!" I said sullenly.
"Sounds like Kai needs to go back to driving school." Lloyd said cheekily, with a glance at me to see he was getting my attention.
Little shit.
"I never went!" I responded promptly. I realized that was probably the wrong this to say after I said it.
"Well doesn't that explain a lot." Pixal said. Lloyd burst into laughter. I tried to stay annoyed but I just couldn't. His laugh was infectious. I felt my face breaking into a smile.
He is the best person ever.
Lloyd was wearing a pair of jeans along with my red hoodie which he had refused to take off. I thought that was adorable, but the day was getting hotter, and I wouldn't have wanted to wear anything other than the thin swim shorts and short sleeved t-shirt I was dressed in.
