Chapter 12.4: Anak

ISANG high five ang pinagsaluhan ni Natty at Dailey Artark nang magharap silang dalawa. Malawak ang ngiti nila sa bawat isa at hindi mapigilang matuwa dahil sa lahat ba naman na pwedeng ipasok na kahinaan nila ni Careen ay ang siyang mentor pa talaga nila? Mukha lang bata si Dailey pero ang totoo ay more than five years ang tanda nito sa kanila ni Careen. Hindi alam ni Natty kung tanga lang ba talaga ang mga Facilitators o baka may hidden reason ang mga ito. Kahit ano pa man, hindi no'n mababago ang katotohanang may dumating na panibagong kakampi.

Natty also thought that with Dailey, they might be able to kill McLain or Dessy. The facilitator just gave them another weapon to fight.

Nasa rooftop sila ng building 1 at kita mula sa pwesto nila ang nagkakagulong mga pladents at civilian sa baba. Kalmado ang hangin at napakagandang pagkakataon para sa kanilang mga long range fighters.

"How come, Dailey? You let them kidnapped you?" Natty teased her a bit at katulad ng inaasahan ay tinawanan siya nito.

"I'll give my respect to the facilitators of this game. I never anticipated it. I was on a mission to kill a minister, then kabam! Someone suddenly attacked me from behind. Next thing I knew, I'm grouped with that bunch of weaklings. Pathetic, right?"

Umiling si Natty. "Not at all, Dailey. Maybe if I were in your place, I'll end up with the same fate. I can't deny that the facilitators have legendary secrets and move so unexpectedly. What happened to you is nothing new, I guess."

"I'm just worried of the rules that comes with you," biglang singit ni Careen. Napalingon tuloy sa dito sina Dailey at Natty. "I'm sure they will not just give us civilians without a prior rules, though you're surely not a civilian," sabi ni Careen habang may mapaglarong tingin kay Dailey, and Dailey smirked at that. "But that doesn't change the fact you were with them. So what's the catch? Have any idea, Dail?"

Nakangusong umiling si Dailey. "They mostly let us sleep. I didn't struggled or tried to fight back because the guards were aggressive. I think they have their rule that if the captives fight back, kill them instantly. I realized that when one man tried to go against them. That's why, being not that stupid, I go along with them and choose to wait for the right moment. And ta-da! Here I am," wika ni Dailey habang iwinagayway pa ang mga kamay sa ere. Napangisi rin doon si Natty at Careen. "Though I think something's aching on my back."

Sa huling sinabi ni Dailey parehong na alarma si Natty at Careen. Nagkatinginan sila at may namuong parehong ideya sa mga isip nila.

"Let me see," aya agad ni Careen na sinunod naman ni Dailey. Careen raised Dailey's shirt and when she saw what's on Dailey's back, she can't help but sighed in disbelief.

Nakita ni Natty ang reaksyong 'yon ni Careen kaya lumapit agad siya. Nang makita ay napatakip na lang siya sa bibig niya.

"You and the civilians," simula ni Careen. "They sent all of you inside to serve as a puzzle piece, Dail."

Napalingon sa dito si Dailey na may pagtatakang ekspresyon tsaka niya sinubukan tignan ang likod niya pero hindi talaga abot ng mga mata niya. "What the hell do you mean?"

"There's a shape, a half broken circle on your back, tattooed. There are letters too but it's scrambled and not complete. I think, the other half contains the other letters that will complete the written mystery on your back," sagot ni Careen. "By the way, your tattoo is still new. You were maybe one of those who were last tattooed and the reason why it is still aching."
