It’s Saturday, the morning of Grayson’s special final exam. It’s still dark and very cold when Erin wakes up. She awoke earlier than usual. Maybe there are just so many things running in her mind or maybe she is just excited about the final exam, either way, she gets out of bed, wrapping herself up in her warm comforter. She opens their front door and sees Grayson outside. The cool early morning air kisses her face; she likes. She steps outside and makes her way across the street to where Grayson is.
Grayson is sitting on the curb of their front lawn. He is wearing jogging pants and a Greenvale High jacket to keep him warm. It barely works; he has to keep his hands inside the jacket pockets. He sees Erin as she approaches. They smile.
“Excited?” Erin asks.
“Yeah, very. You?” Grayson says, looking up at Erin who is now standing beside him.
“Yeah, ditto,” Erin says as she makes herself comfortable beside Grayson.
She spreads her arms and wraps Grayson in her warm comforter.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
No other words are spoken as the darkness fades and the world gets brighter.
