The beginning of World Music Day started in 1982 by the Ministry of Culture in France. They wanted live, free music to be available to anyone in the world, no matter where they were from or what their heritage looked like, so the Ministry developed a clear idea to celebrate the wonders of music.
Have you ever listened to your favorite song and couldn't help but sing along, dance or tap to the beat? Maybe even put on a song and walked to the beat like you're in a movie? You're not alone, we've all done it! Most of us, anyway.
Some of our favorite songs can brighten our spirits and lift us out of our worries. Music can even have the ability to lift you up when you don't feel like getting out of bed. Studies even show that listening to music has improved performance when exercising.
Music around the world looks different, depending on where in the world you are. Music is as unique and distinct as cuisine. And that is a part of what makes music so great. It allows us to express ourselves when words might not be enough.
You know what the best part of celebrating World Music Day is? It's completely free! No matter what kind of music you're into, take a moment to really appreciate this day by listening to your favorite genres. It's also a great day to try out a new instrument, or an instrument you've been wanting to try out for a time but haven't been able to yet. Another great part of World Music day is that you can celebrate it with whomever you'd like - young, old, stranger or family! We can all connect with music.
Why not take a moment to appreciate some of the singers that are considered the greatest of all time?
