The Site

Commonly known as Chaonei Church, Chaonei 81 was first built in 1910 not as a church, but as the North China Union Language School to teach Mandarin Chinese to missionaries from the West.

It was from the 1930s that the imposing building began to serve as a Catholic church until the communist government took control of the building in the 1950s.

The origins of the building are in dispute with no concrete evidence of truly what it served as and when.

The Ghosts

One awful story says that the building was once home to a Chinese National Party official in  1949. According to this version of the story, the government official's mistress killed herself in the building after their breakup and is one of the ghosts that can be seen there.

The second ghost - or set of ghosts - is a group of construction workers who went inside, but never came out.

It is also said that the house is eerily cold, even in the warmer months.

Current Situation

The building is abandoned and considered one of the most haunted places in Beijing. Due to these stories, it is left undisturbed... unless it is featured in a movie.
