If you've been with us for over a year, you might already know the first bit in this article. But that's not all we have for this year's Halloween. Keep reading and learn what more we'll be doing this year!

The origin of Halloween dates back over 2,000 years, to the Celtic festivals of Samhain. The Celts celebrated their new year on November 1st. It marked the end of summer and the beginning of the dark and cold winter. The time was often associated with human death.

According to the Celts, the night before the new year, the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred. On October 31st they celebrated Samhain — a night that believed ghosts returned to earth. They'd wear costumes and dance around a bonfire to ward off ghosts.

This celebration eventually became a time to honor all saints and incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. This evening became known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween, and over time, incorporated the traditions we see today.

Here on WattpadEmpowered though, we're not quite into the dancing around the bonfire thing. During this spooky month, we have a number of fun activities and articles, all based on Halloween, starting with some of the world's most haunted places. And if you haven't noticed, we've already had a head start on the spooky side of October!

Across Wattpad, there are many profiles hosting a variety of activities this month. And not to mention, the Halloween Vault collaboration running for the fourth year on many of our ambassador-run profiles.

Are you just like us, wanting to spread out the celebration of one day during a whole month? To get yourself in the mood, here's a list of classical as well as new Halloween movies to watch!
