Marriya's POV

Ellington and I sit alone in our empty house, both silently praying that the door will open and our parents will walk in like nothing had happened. Like the news report had the wrong flight number and they all enjoyed their vacation.
But something did happen. They're gone, and no matter how long I stare at the door, I know it's not going to open.
Every few hours, Ellington forces me out of my coma-like state just long enough to get food in my system. He then returns to his spot beside me, and we continue lying together under a blanket.
A few days pass, and the vicious cycle continues.
It isn't until one day that there's a knock on the door that I finally get up. At first I wait, hoping that maybe if I ignore them for long enough they they'll just go away. After 5 solid minutes of consistent knocking, I make a move to answer it.
Swinging open the door, I find the bloodshot eyes of the five lynch kids staring right through me.
"Hey," I murmur, stepping aside so they can come inside.
They all move into the living room, Ratliff not even bothering to move as they all pile in around him.
"Why are you guys here?" he asks hoarsely.
"Well we had an idea and wanted to run it by you two before setting anything up," Rocky murmurs.
"And that would be?"
"We wanted to have a joint memorial service for our parents."
"A memorial service?" I ask.
"Yeah. It's as close to a funeral as we can get," Riker explains. "I think we all need it."
"I want an actual funeral," I decide.
"Marriya..." Ryland trails off, not knowing how to continue. "We don't exactly have-"
"I know, but I want to put a coffin in the ground anyway. We can fill it with keepsakes for all of them. We will bury it at the cemetery, and at least then we will have somewhere to go. We will have a place to remember them."
"I agree," Ratliff pipes in immediately.
After scanning the nodding heads of his siblings, Riker says, "okay then, it's settled. I'll call the funeral home now."
"I'll come with you," Rocky and Ryland day in unison.
"I think we're all going to get going," Rydel announces.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow," I whisper, pressing a long kiss to Ross' lips.
"Here, just one last thing. I want you guys to check this out. I ordered them online yesterday and they just showed up," Riker says, tapping into a picture on his phone.
Passing it over, I examine a photo of two slate grey headstones.
"To live in the hearts of those we love is to never die
Mark Lynch: January 5, 1962 - September 26, 2014
Stormie Lynch : August 23, 1967 - September 26, 2014"
My parents' is identical, the only difference being the names and birth dates.
"They're perfect," Ratliff whispers.
"I'll bring them to the funeral home before the service."
"See you guys at 11 on Friday."

After the Lynch's leave, I go straight to my room. It's the first time I've been alone since we got the news, and a feeling of loneliness washes over me. I could be in a room full of people, and I would still feel completely alone. I would give anything in the world to have my parents back. We were finally a family, and once again life has screwed me over.
From deep within my bag, my phone starts to buzz. Pulling it out, I answer a call from someone I haven't spoken to in what feels like forever.
"Emily."
"Hey, Mar."
"I can't talk now," she whimpers. "I'm sorry. I just needed to hear your voice."
She then begins sobbing uncontrollably, the pain she is feeling adding to everything that has collected inside of my since my parents died.
"Emily, are you okay?" I ask
"No."
"I want you to come back," I whisper.
"I can't come back. I know it's selfish, but I just can't be around Riker after everything that happened."
"Emily, I know that being with us is probably the last place you want to be. Just know that I really miss you and hope I can see you soon. I love you, Em."
"I love you too, Marriya," she murmurs. "I'll talk to you soon."
The second she hangs up the phone, I break down in tears. I cry harder than I think I ever have in my life; sobbing for everything I've lost. One of my best friends from back home, everything I grew up with, my parents, and now Emily. I've had more than my fair share of loss so far in my life, and I know it's going to keep getting worse before it ever starts getting better.
"Marriya?" Ross calls through the door. "Can I come in?"
Taking my muffled whimpers as a yes, he slips inside. Pain flares in his eyes as he looks down at me. The hardest part for him with all of this is he has to watch me hurt and know there is nothing he can do to stop it. No matter how tight he hugs me it won't be enough fix everything broken in me. No matter how many times he brushes the tears away, more will replace them. No matter how many times he tells me it will be okay, we both know it's a lie.
Through all of this, he never stops trying, and I love him more everyday because of that.
