"Oh my gosh!" I cry. "Rydel, what happened?"
Her left eye is swollen; purple and blue blotches replacing the usual pinkish colour. She attempted to cover it with makeup, and I have to admit, she did a really good job. Definitely better then me, that's for sure. My neck was easy to cover with my long hair, but the large purple looking spot along my collar bone is at the perfect spot where no shirt will cover it. Also, it's dark enough that no amount of makeup can even come close to hiding it.
"You know when you are pulling up your blanket and it slips from your fingers and you accidentally punch yourself in the face?" She asks cheerfully.
""Yes..." I reply uncertainly.
She drops her voice to a volume only I can hear. "Well that happened last night. Jordan and I were out drinking and-"
"Delly!" I hiss. "You're not legal yet!"
"I know, but Jordan is."
"Girls, lez roll," Ratliff calls out.
"Coming," Rydel replies.
She makes an attempt to meet his eyes, but he turns away before she can.
As she spins around, I notice a large cut on her shoulder, outlined with the ghostly colour of another large bruise.
""Okay, you didn't punch yourself in the shoulder," I whisper. "What the hell happened last night?"
"We went down to the river. I was walking along the edge and I fell. It's seriously no biggie, Marriya."
When she begins walking away, I reach out with the intent to stop her. I pull my hand back in panic as I realize I am about to grab her injured shoulder.
"Hey, Babe," Ross murmurs in my ear as he flops down on the seat beside me.
My stomach knots in pleasure as he presses a gentle kiss to my lips.
"I seriously liked it better before you guys started doing that," Rocky says loudly in a monotone voice, hinting obviously for us to stop.
"And we seriously liked it better before you started talking," I retort.
"Nice one!" Riker laughs, offering me a fist bump.
I take it gladly, smirking at Rocky the entire time.
"Rydel, what happened to your shoulder?" Ryland asks.
"I just fell, okay?" She snaps in his face.
"Your eye-" Rocky murmurs, but is heard and interrupted by Rydel.
"I've just been a klutz lately, alright? Is that such a crime?"
"Sorry," we all mumble in unison.
Riker pulls the vehicle into our designated parking spot, and we all can't file out soon enough. Rydel stalks off into the building to get her makeup touched up; the rest of us slowly drifting in behind her.
As we walk, I slowly begin to explain to Ross what Rydel told me earlier this morning.
"She's lying," I state.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean she didn't punch herself, and she didn't fall. There is something going on that she is keeping from us."
"How do you know?" He asks softly as he holds the door open for me.
"I don't know, I just do."
"What do we do?"
"Nothing," I reply.
"Nothing?" He repeats; aghast.
"If she feels so strongly that she needs to hide this from us, then she won't tell us just because we ask her. She feels like we've backed her into a corner, so she's being aggressive with us. If we give her space, she will cool off."
