Ross' PoV

The colours of the sunset gleam in her eyes. The weak winds blows against us, the sweet fragrance of her perfume floating around in the air. We are sitting so close I can feel a faint heat radiating off her body. The moment is perfect.

That is, until I feel my phone buzz.

From: Rocky Lynch

Rat is freaking out. How's it going??

To: Rocky Lynch

Good. Really good.

From: Rocky Lynch

Come down. We're watching a movie.

To: Rocky Lynch

Be down soon

Marriya's eyes meet mine expectingly.

"It's just Rocky. They want to know if you want to watch a movie," I reassure her. I sigh quietly. I don't want this moment to end.

"Okay," she replies weakly, looking back out at the calm waters.

"Don't worry, Marriya."

Mild anger sweeps across her face. "I'm-"

"The ocean isn't going anywhere."

She bites her lip to keep from smiling, but traces of joy dance in her eyes.

"Lets go," she says finally.

I rise to my feet, following close behind her. I resist the burning urge to grab her and pull her close, kissing her until we both can't breathe. I can't risk the small chance I have at winning her heart.

Marriya's PoV

Simple tasks like breathing are hard around Ross. Everything about him makes me like him. Every time I try to tell myself to stop, I just grow to like him more. If only a guy like him would ever go for a girl like me.

"You coming?" He asks, waiting patiently on the threshold of my bedroom door.

"Yea, I will be down in a minute," I reply.

"Okay," he nods, slowly turning away.

The second his footsteps fade away, I fall back onto my bed. I am filled with an overwhelming urge to scream, cry, and laugh at the same time. So much has happened over the past few hours, I can barely digest it. Ellington Ratliff. Out of everyone in the world, he is my brother. Over 7 billion people on the planet, and it turned out to be him.

My heart is overwhelmed with emotions towards Ross. He is cute, funny, talented, sweet, caring, and so much more. How can I not fall for him? No, Marriya. You can't. No matter how many times I tell myself that, I still see his face every time I close my eyes.

As hard as I try, I can't shake the image of the boys hurting me out of my head. Every boy in my life so far, aside from Sam, has pretended to love me only long enough to get close to me. I can't let it happen again.

I curse myself out mentally, for it is already too late.

Eventually, I force myself to my feet and begin walking downstairs. A quiet conversation carries from below, everyone slowly getting settled with enough food and blankets to last the movie.

"Hey, Marriya," Ross grins as he sees me.

"Hi, Marriya!" Rydel exclaims.

I wave slightly to both of them before continuing down the stairs.
