Marriya's POV

After an afternoon out shopping with Ellington, I make my way up to my bedroom. Trudging into my closet, I dump my bags on the floor and walk out.
"Marriya!" Ellington yells. "I'm going to Rydel's!"
"Okay," I call back.
Ever since we got the news of Rydel being sick, he's barely left her side. Him and her brother both treat her like an active bomb, even the slightest knock might be enough to set her off. I can't help but think that if her and Ross switched places, I wouldn't let him out of my sight.
Just as I go to flop onto my bed, I notice a white envelop placed on my pillow.
Tearing it open, I slip a card out. Opening it, I recognize Ross' messy handwriting.

My pledge to you:
I will kill all the spiders, even the really big ones that kinda scare me too. I will never let my pants sag to my knees. I will eat all the peppers when we order a deluxe pizza because I know how much you hate them. I will be the big spoon. I will let you put your cold toes on me so they'll warm up faster. I'll kiss all the paper cuts and door slammed fingers. I will drive you crazy, and tease you far more than I should. I will do my best to never take my anger out on you. I will always be there when you need me. I will hug you, even when you try to push me away. I will dance with you despite your two left feet. I will hold your hand. I'll always watch movies with you, even if I've seen it many times before. I will make you smile.
I will never stop telling you how beautiful you are, or how much I love you. I will love you. Thank you for loving me.
You've been there through everything, and that means more than you will ever comprehend. We're 9 months going on forever, right?
Won't you be mine? I'm already yours.

Pressing the note to my chest, a few tears stream down my face. Suddenly, strong arms wrap tightly around my waist. A chin rests on my shoulder, filling my peripheral vision with familiar head of messy blond hair.
"It's December 16th," I whisper. "With everything going on..."
"I know, and that's why we need this. So many bad things have happened lately, I wanted you to remember that good things happen too."
"I love you so much," I murmur.
"Come with me," he urges.
"Where are we going?"
"To do something I've wanted to do for a while," he smirks, taking my hands and pulling me in the direction of my bed.

Riker's POV

"Riker!" Rocky says, pounding on my door.
"What?" I call out.
"There's someone here for you."
Pulling out my earbuds, I let out a sigh and make my way downstairs. My heart begins racing in my chest as I catch sight of a very familiar green eyed girl.
"Emily?" I ask. "You came back! I knew you'd come back!"
"Rocky convinced me to come. We need to talk," she says. "I don't want to do this here. Let's go for a walk."
Nodding, I slip my converses on and follow her outside. We tread our familiar path down the beach, neither of us speaking for a solid five minutes.
"Listen, I just came here to say one thing, okay?" she says, breaking the uneasy silence.
"I'm listening."
"Riker, you need move on," she says curtly.
"What?" I ask. "Emily, what about us?"
"There is no us anymore. There's you, and there's me. That's it."
"Emily, you can't go. I love you."
"Have a good life, Riker. You're gonna make it really far."
"So this is goodbye? It can't end like this."
"I think goodbyes are the only perfect thing we get," she murmurs. "So I'm going to make this one count. This is the last time you're going to see me for a while."
"We're perfect, Emily. Please don't go," I beg.
"Goodbye, Riker."
"Just tell me what I'm doing wrong, and I'll fix it. Please, just don't leave me. Not again. I need you now more than ever."
Leaning in, she presses her lips against mine. Countless emotions flood my system like a tsunami; the feeling of her body against mine enough to drive me insane. My hands move to grab her waist, but she slips away from me before I can.
"Goodbye," she mouths, before turning and walking away.
"I'll never give up on you!" I cry; my vision blurring with tears.
Part of me wants to run after. To chase her until I catch her then never let her go again. Unfortunately, the bigger part of me knows it won't make her stay. This time, I've lost her for good.

Marriya's POV

About an hour later, Ross and I are cuddled together in our makeshift blanket fort on my bedroom floor. My bed has been disassembled; the various pillows stacked like war stockades to support the corners where my duvet hangs. A half eaten box of pizza sits off the the side, and a stack of old Disney movies on VCR are stacked near the TV. It's kinda hard to believe Ross is an adult, because most times he acts like he's six.
"Okay, my turn," I say. "Did you ever have an embarrassing childhood nickname?"
"Umm, yeah...," he trails off. "My siblings used to call me Jersey Shor, and I hate it to this day."
Immediatly after hearing that, I burst out laughing.
"This name does not leave this room," he orders.
"No problem, Jersey Shor," I grin.
"Hey! You promised!"
"We haven't left the room yet!" I defend myself.
"You suck," he smiles. "How did you and Mikayla meet?"
"Well it was on May 5th, at a school christmas concert. We both had the idea to hide out in the storage room so we wouldn't have to go on stage."
"And how did that work out for you?" he laughs.
"They found us, and dragged us on stage just in time for the performance."
"That's the best thing I've ever heard," he snickers, still grinning to himself.
"Now it's my turn. When did you first figure out you loved me?" I ask softly.
"It was around the time you left for Toronto," he says. "I tried to tell you when you were leaving, but I chickened out. Then again over Skype at the London show, but that didn't work out too well."
"Was that when Ryland's phone got broken?" I ask.
"Yeah, that was the night."
"And you just knew it was love, even though it was your first time?"
"Marriya, I love to live my life in the grey area, but the way I feel about you is as black and white as it gets."
"Ross-"
"Ever since I met you, I knew you were special. There's just something about you that draws me in, I can't explain it. I just know that I can never get enough of you."
"I've loved you since before I met you," I say. "You were always my favourite. It's kinda crazy to think that I'm actually here with you right now. Finding you was like coming home, and I'd be lying if I told you losing you was something I could handle."
"You'll never have to do that, I promise. I'm in your life to stay, Mar."

Rikers POV

Wandering slowing; I make my way home. Tears blur my vision, and I can still feel the ecstasy of her lips against mine. Shes the the most addicting drug in my world; the taste of her still lingers in my mouth.
Walking across my lawn, I see the lights shining from the family room. Glancing in, I find Rocky sprawled across one of the couches.
Blood begins to boil in my veins, and I am filled with an indescribable rage.
"You!" I scream, slamming the front door behind myself. "You got a lot of nerve waiting up for me after everything you did!"
"What are you talking about?" Rocky asks.
"Emily just left me for good, and it's all your fault!"
"What do you mean it's my fault?" he yells. "I was doing you a favour!"
"We were doing just fine without you interfering! I think I was actually close to getting her to come back then you got in the middle of it!"
"Riker, she wasn't coming back! If I hadn't have brought her, she would have stayed away for good anyway and I'm sure of that!"
"You don't know anything, Rocky! Maybe try getting your own girlfriend instead of meddling with everyone else's!"
"You were making a mistake! You were miserable waiting for that girl to come back to you when she never would! You were throwing your happiness away for nothing, and I had to do something to wake you up!" Rocky screams.
"Well it's a bad idea to wake a sleepwalker," I seethe; shooting him an icy glare before storming from the room.
