Marriya's PoV

Three days pass. Three long, lonely, hot days. This weather is a gift and a curse.

On the third day, nightmares jolt me awake in the middle of the night. Apparently I can move across the continent, and still the haunting images of my past life can find me.
Glancing over, I find a small rectangular box wrapped in brown paper sitting on my bedside table, aka a mini fridge with stone countertop. Picking it up, I notice a note resting on top. It reads:

"Marriya,

Worldwide plan.

Enjoy,

--Cheryl and George"

"What the?" I mutter, pulling the paper from the box. It slips from my hand and falls to the bed as I realize what it is. A pink iPhone 5C.

Shrieking excitedly, I pull the box open.

"No fricking way," I grin as the apple symbol lights up the screen.

Guilt overcomes me as I realize how much this must have cost. I try not to be scared, but whenever I get a gift like this, I always end up paying the price in the end.

"No," I tell myself aloud. "They're not like that. They won't hurt me."

Nervously, I set up the phone.

The second it's finished, I find myself typing Mikayla's number into the keypad.

"Hello?" She answers; yawning loudly.

"Hi," I squeal.

"It's four in the morning, who the hell do you think you... wait, Marriya?"

"Yes!" I cry happily.

"Marriya! Oh my gosh! How are you? How's your family? How are you calling me? Do you have any siblings? What kind of food do they have?" She screams.

"Good, good, a phone, yes, umm... good food?" I laugh.

"Brother or sister?" She asks skeptically.

"20 year old brother."

"Damn it."

"I haven't met him yet. I've basically stayed in my room the whole time I've been here"

"Oh, Mar, it will be okay. Not every guy in the world is a jerk."

"I know, Mikkey. I'm just scared," I admit. "Tonight my parents are leaving for a two week cruise. I told them I was fine with it but I'm honestly terrified."

"Why?"

"Cause my brothers 5 best friends are coming to stay with us because their parents are going too. So it's me, one girl, and 5 older boys."

"Look on the bright side. They could be totally gorgeous."

"That's likely," I laugh. "Plus I'm related to one of them! That's so creepy!"

"I'm not!" She exclaims. "Get some numbers for me?"

I reply with a long, whole hearted laugh. Mikayla can make me feel good no matter what. That's one of the things I love about her. One of the things I miss.

We continue to talk for the next four hours, telling each other every aspect of our new lives. I sigh as I hang up, disappointed she has to leave for work.

It's 5am, but there is no chance of me going back to sleep now.

Suddenly, an idea pops into my head. Grinning like an idiot, I punch the number into my phone.
