Marriya's PoV
Not long after Rydel wakes up, Ross drives me home.
"Can you stay with me?" I ask softly.
He smiles, pressing my bedroom door shut behind himself.
He sits down beside me on the edge of the bed, immediately lacing our fingers together.
"Are you sure you're not in pain?" he asks for what feels like the millionth time today.
"Ross, I'm fine," I repeat.
His fingers trace along the cuts going down my arms, but pause as they reach my wrist. It's then it realize the doctors cut off my bracelets, but it's too late. He's seen them.
"Mar?" he asks weakly. "Why?"
I attempt to jerk my arm free, but his grip is solid.
"I'm not as brave as you think I am," I whisper.
"You're the strongest person I've ever met," he argues.
"I may seem strong, but I break."
"I just... I don't understand why you would do this to yourself."
"I was in a bad place-"
"These don't look 6 months old, Marriya."
"You don't understand!"
"Then explain it to me!"
"I... I can't," I murmur.
Immediatly, memories flood my brain and bring tears to my eyes. Ross brings my body tight to his; pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.
"Marriya, these aren't cut scars," Ross whispers.
"Yes, they are," I argue.
"No, Mar. They're battle scars. You've had to fight your way through life, and no one makes it through that kind of war without a wound or two."
"Please," I beg, pulling my arm from his grip.
I turn and try to walk away, but I feel him arms wrap around my waist and pull my body into his lap.
"Mar," he whispers.
I flinch as he takes hold of my wrist again, pressing his lips to each one of the ugly lines. He repeats the actions with my other arm before capturing my lips with his own.
"We may not like scars, but they're part of who we are. Each one tells a story about a piece of our past. Marriya, I am deeply in love with every part of you, your past included. I knew you had a bad start to life, but that didn't stop me from falling in love."
"Ross, can we just be in love. I don't wanna fall, cause everything that falls will break."
"Then let's just keep falling, Baby. Every night I go to sleep thinking I couldn't love you any more than I do, but my mind changes every morning when I wake up and see you."
He opens his mouth to say more, but I cut him off by pressing my mouth against his. He pushes me backwards onto my bed, pressing his body down onto mine.
"I love you," I murmur.
"I love you, too," he whispers.
Our lips connect again, and in that moment, there is no place I'd rather be than right here in his arms./\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
Ratliff's PoV
She's been awake for a few hours, and I'm now the only person that hasn't gone in to see her. I pace uneasily in the hallway outside Rydel's room, wishing someone was here to tell me what to do. Marriya would know what to do. She always knows what to do, and unfortunately, I know her well enough to know exactly what she would say if she were here.
Sighing, I push open the door and walk in.
"Ellington?" Rydel's soft voice questions.
"Hey, Delly," I whisper.
Taking my time, I make my way to a chair beside her bed. Pulling it forward, I sit down right in front of her.
"What are you doing here?"
"Rydel, there has been something I've been meaning to say to you for a very long time, I just haven't been able to find the words," I say.
"I've been meaning to talk to you too."
Her beautiful eyes are bloodshot and brimming with tears; her long blonde hair tied in a messy bun at the top of her head. Her face and arms are covered in bruises, recently sealed cuts marring her clear skin. Even now, she has never looked more beautiful.
"I'm so sorry, Rydel," I whisper.
"I'm sorry, too," she says instantly.
Reaching out, I clasp one of her cold hands between mine before continuing to speak,"Del, you have absolutely nothing to apologize for. What I said to you was completely out of line and uncalled for. I think I did what I did-"
"Ellington, you don't need to apologize. I made a really bad mistake, and when you tried to tell me, I flipped. I didn't want to hear what you had to say, even though if I had, it would have saved me from so much pain."
"Rydel," I say softly. Pausing briefly, I take a deep breath before continuing, "I'm in love with you."
"Ratliff-"
"You don't need to say anything. I just... I want you to know how special you are to me. You have made the last five years of my life the best five years of my life, and I am eternally grateful for all of this. R5 changed my life, all of you did. It may be over now, but everything we have isn't. I love you, Rydel Lynch."
"I love you too, Ellington," she murmurs.
"Rydel, I want you to know that I'm going to be here for you. If you'll let me, I want to raise this baby as my own."
"Ellington, that is the sweetest thing I've ever heard," she whispers.
"Is that a yes?" I ask hopefully.
"I'm sorry, Ell, but no. The crash was too traumatic, and I got hit really hard. The baby's gone."/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
