Chapter 1

Y/N POV:

"Are you sure? Like 100%, without any doubt, sure?"  I looked at the man sitting next to me on the plush sofa, not sure if I wanted to believe what was happening, almost wishing the information he had just given me would change, but knowing deep down it wouldn't.

Alex, my boyfriend of six years, looked down at his feet, a blush on his handsome face.  "Yeah.  I'm sure."  He rubbed the back of his neck, a clear indication of his uneasiness with the current situation.  When he dropped his hand, the tattoo that appeared out of nowhere was clearly visible, a stunning collection of swirls that created a heart that adorned his right wrist.

"And you're sure Cassidy has the same one?"  Cassidy was Alex's high school sweetheart from almost ten years ago.  They had broken up when they left for college, an amicable parting of ways due to differences and distance.  Alex had moved on and was happy when I met him seven years ago, two full years after the breakup. 

Nodding his head in confirmation, Alex pulled out his phone and scrolled through the photos until he found what he was looking for.  It was a photo of a photo of the matching tattoo, marked with a doctor's stamp confirming it to be authentic.   Cassidy had posted a picture of her tattoo on her Twitter account and a mutual friend of the two of them had spotted it, informing Alex that his ex-girlfriend was currently sporting an unexplained heart tattoo on her right wrist, one that matched his.  "When I flew back home, Cassidy offered to have the tattoo verified by her physician, give me proof that it wasn't a purposeful tattoo."

I studied the photo in front of me for a second, not exactly sure what I was feeling.  Although I loved Alex, I wanted to be happy for him, happy for the soulmate that he had found.  He hadn't been looking for his soulmate, assuring me that he was happy with me, but when he was told about the photo, about the matching mark on Cassidy, he told me he had to check.  Part of me wondered if he had always harbored feelings for her and this was that final indication that it probably was true.  The idea of soulmates was something that had not existed, at least not really.  Sure people in love claimed all the time that they had found their soulmate, found the one person they were supposed to be with, supposed to love.  However, all of a sudden, the idea of soulmates was shockingly real.  I just never expected my boyfriend to find his.

"I told Cassidy about you.  She... she told me that she didn't want to be the cause of someone's relationship ending, especially since we've been together so long, but... I can't deny the connection.  I thought this soulmate stuff was bullshit, I really did, but after seeing her again, I... I just don't know anymore."  Alex stood up and started pacing and I could see the whole thing frustrated him.

"Alex?  It's... it's okay.  It's going to be okay.  Cassidy is your soulmate, whether we want to admit it or not.  You're one of the lucky ones, one of the few who have been able to find yours.  As much as I love you, I know that Cassidy is the one you are supposed to be with it."  Although the words were breaking me on the inside, I kept calm on the outside, wanting Alex to know he has my full support.

Although I had encouraged Alex to get on that plane, this was not the outcome I was expecting.  Part of me had hoped that the photo would be fake or the tattoo would be fake, that my boyfriend was not fated to be with his ex-girlfriend, however the proof was undeniable.

Alex sat down again and reached for my hand.  "I love you, I really do.  I'm... I'm just so confused right now."  Alex's eyes grew misty and I knew it was an indication that his emotions were getting the best of him.  Alex was not a crier and for him to tear up was proof that the whole situation had him stressed, perplexed, and vulnerable.  "I just... I don't know what to do."

Pushing my selfishness aside, I leaned forward and gave Alex a hug, knowing that this was the right thing to do.  "Cassidy is your soulmate and you two need to see where this goes.  You were given a second chance with your first love, something that few people ever get.  Take advantage of that and see what happens."
