As Logan and I walk through the courtyard, my mind is preoccupied with thoughts of the girl from last night. She seems like fun. She doesn't seem like the type of person who would cling to me like the others do. I could enjoy myself with her. Rather than actively seeking out my next mistake, I find myself being dragged towards meeting Brie's friend.

"Yo, Clay, are you listening? The girls should be here any second." Logan says. I apologise and say, "Sorry, man, I was just thinking."

I spot her as the girls round the corner—the girl Logan and Brie won't stop talking about. It's not fun, though. The mere fact that we must meet her irritates me. She circles around and directs her gaze towards us. It's the woman from last night who I couldn't help but think about. Her body – her body, is ideal in every aspect. She is stunning, small, and has long, black hair that is as dark as the night.

"That's the girl from last night." I look at Logan. But there's something about her that sets off alarm bells in my head. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's an air of danger that surrounds her.

As she approaches us, Logan's demeanour changes. "Stay away from her," he says quietly as we walk.

"Too late; my eyes are set on that one." I smile.

"Jesus Christ." That is all he could stammer. As we approach them, Brie runs up and hugs Logan. He plants a kiss on her cheek. I look over at Brie's friend, who has a look of disgust on her face.

She's different.

I turn to face her and introduce myself. "I'm Clay," I say.

"Raven," she says back. I only get a one-word response from her. I can only think of one word to describe her: intriguing. Considering I just had an amusing talk with her last night, I wonder if I'll get to know her better.

"You guys coming to the party tonight?" Logan asks the girls. "Of course we are." Brie answers.

"Not me. I have way too much to do tomorrow." Raven responds.

"Oh, come on, Ray, classes don't start until Tuesday. Come with us tonight, and I promise tomorrow afternoon I'll help you get all your books and everything you need to be situated for your classes." Brie begs her.

I watch Raven; it's like I can see all the gears turning in her brain. "Fine, but you promise we won't stay late?" She asks.

"Promise," Brie says, jumping up and down like a child in a candy store.

Raven is being shown around campus by Brie, and we accompany her while she remains mute. "Hmms" and "ahs" are the only sounds coming from that girl. How does she feel? I'd like to know. Girls ignoring me? I'm not used to this. She behaves as though I don't exist. I'm not in any way going to allow this girl to ignore me. One way or another, I'm going to have her.

"Bye, babe." I hear Logan say. "I'll see you tonight." He continues as he leans in to kiss her.

"It was nice to meet you, Raven," I say, hoping she gets all giddy and is just shy. "Yeah, see ya." She says as she turns on her heels and walks away.

What the hell was that?

Logan looks at me like he knows what I am thinking. As we walk away from them, I can't help but wonder what her story is. Her eyes showed innocence with a thousand untold stories. Logan breaks my train of thought when he begins to speak.

"Told you, man, you're not going to get to her; she's just as good as you, actually better. She doesn't care for anyone's feelings. Brie says she has a black heart. You're wasting your time; find someone else." He says it with a look, hoping that I will change my mind.

"She is going to be a challenge; I like challenges." I continue, "You wait and see. I'll have her begging for me." I say with a grin, walking towards my car.

The first step is to impress her with the car. No girl can resist my 1969 Chevy Camaro. Logan jumps in.

He says with concern in his voice, "I'm telling you, bro, she is the female version of you; you both have closed off hearts and never let anyone in, plus she has a long list of victims from what I've heard, and she doesn't reciprocate anything toward anyone. She also differs from other girls in many ways. She enjoys the excitement of the game just as much as you do. You've got something else coming if you think she'll fall for you. You are aware that no matter what you do, things will not go well for her. If something bad happens to her, neither you nor I will ever be able to make up for it."

I say with a voice of demand, "My list of victims is a lengthy one, too, and I have no problem adding one more to that list." I slam the car door and disregard his advice.

"Okay, it's your call." Logan shakes his head and shrugs.

This is going to be fun!
