When we enter the house, Brie and Logan are sitting in the living room watching TV; Brie looks over. I nod, motioning for her to follow. "I'll be right back," I tell Clay.
"Okay," He says, and goes to join Logan.
"How are you feeling?" She asks as we walk up the stairs. I enter Clay's bedroom and say. "Like I told Clay earlier, I need things to be out of focus, so I want to have some fun to get my mind off everything, anything that helps." I search through my bag, grabbing my swimsuit from it. "Water volleyball?" A mischievous smile crosses my face.
"Done!" Brie laughs and leaves to change. We sneak past the boys, and I grab two glasses as Brie grabs the vodka; we down two shots each. "Miss. Beauregard," she starts, "drinking on a school night?"
"Like I said, out of focus," I wink.
"What's going on here?" Clay chuckles as he grabs me.
Logan laughs. "Of course, you two would want to go swimming in this weather." He kisses Brie. They're so cute together. "I'll start heating the pool. You two stay here while we get ready," Logan says to us.
We down our third shot. "And I'll be taking that." Clay grabs the bottle of vodka and walks away.
"Awwww!" We both whine, but the guys don't care. They laugh. Sometimes I forget how fast they are; they're both down in less than a minute. I can't help but stare at his tattoos. They do something to me.
"By the way, I'm skipping classes tomorrow; are you guys in?" Asking the three of them.
"I'm down," Logan says.
"Me too," Brie agrees.
"Hell yeah!" Clay says, and I smile. "You and that damn smile!" He says as he kisses me. Logan grabs two blood bags, one for himself and the other he throws at Clay. But I have another idea.
"You guys go ahead. I need to talk to Clay about something." They both nod and head out.
"What's wrong?" He questions. "Nothing." I grab his hand as he follows me to the powder room. I take the baggie from him and put it down.
"I have a better idea," Showing him my wrist. "Are you sure?"
"I need to feel you in my veins. You don't need to ask because you already know."
He lifts me onto the counter and takes a bite; I gasp, but then the pain turns into pleasure, and I moan. "Thank you, baby."
"You're welcome," I say, and he kisses me.
"We should get out there." I laugh, opening the door. When we step outdoors, the yard is bathed in moonlight, and the pool is lit up in blue. Without warning, Clay picks me up and throws me into the water. When I come to, I realise that Logan had also done the same to Brie.
"Assholes!" We both shout. They stand there, laughing like two little schoolboys. They jump in, and the fun begins. I become aware that I don't want to sleep as the night wears on because of the nightmares. By the time we exit the pool and enter the house, it is three in the morning. We all wish each other goodnight and go to our bedrooms. I remove my wet swimsuit and hang it out to dry in the bathroom. Taking Clay's shirt, I climb into bed. Two minutes later, he joins.
"I'm not going to classes on Thursday either," I tell him.
"Fair enough, you've been through a lot." As he holds me, I close my eyes and fall asleep, and the nightmares continue.
⁂
My phone goes off, and I stumble to find it as my eyes adjust to the sun shining in the room.
What time is it?
I grab my phone, and it's half past one with three messages, all from Zack.
Hey, are you coming to class?
Hey, is everything okay?
I'm getting worried; I haven't seen you all day.
Crap!
I look over at Clay as he sleeps peacefully. I don't want to wake him, so I text Zack back.
Hey, sorry it was a long night. I won't be in class tomorrow either, but I'll see you Friday. I text him.
Okay, Professor Scott says there's a quiz Friday morning. Did you want to meet before class?
Sure, I reply.
K see you Friday
I put my phone down and turn to face Clay. I run my fingers gently through his hair, and he moves, so I stop. "Don't stop. That feels good," He mumbles.
So I do as I'm told, taking my other hand to trace the tattoos on his arm. Then one catches my eye, and I stop, I focus on it, and it's a...Raven.
"What's wrong?" He sleepily asks.
"When did you get this?" Pointing to the raven. Why haven't I ever noticed it?
"Oh," He sits up. "I got it after you told me we couldn't be together," He says. I can feel his eyes on me, but I don't lose focus on the tattoo.
"Why?" I ask him. "It's stupid," He argues.
"Tell me." I look at him. He takes a deep breath. "Because I felt lost after you left me, I thought getting this would make it seem like you were with me wherever I was." I kiss him.
"It's not stupid, but what if you regret it?"
He says, looking into my eyes, "That would mean I would have to regret having you in my life, and that's one thing I will never regret." The things this man says melt me; he always says the right thing. I kiss him hard, and he pulls me on top of him.
"You hid it pretty well." I start to giggle.
"I guess I did, I was wondering how long it would take for you to find it."
Knock knock
"You've got to be kidding me." He scowls.
"Be nice," I whisper. "Come in!" He yells. Logan pops his head in. "I hope I wasn't interrupting anything." He laughs, Clay grabs the pillow and covers his face, and screams. I can't help but laugh. "Anyways, Brie wanted me to let you guys know she made food."
"Thank you. We will be right down," I tell him.
"Okay, I'll leave you two to go back to whatever it was that you were doing." The pillow goes flying, but Logan dodges it, laughing as he closes the door on his way out.
"You truly are an animal." I tease him.
"Don't test me." He smirks. "You bring out the animal in me."
Oh, those kisses
I pull back before we get carried away. Sweat pants on, and he follows me out the door.
"Is that chocolate chip pancakes I smell?" Asking Brie.
"Duh, did you think I would forget your favourite comfort food?" She smiles.
Clay joins me as I sit down, and we chat while doing so. As I sit there off in my own world, I have a strong suspicion that something bad is about to arise. I have to get myself ready. Logan's eyes are fixed intently on me. He has inquiries but is hesitant to voice them. I side-smile at him, and he exhales deeply. He looks over at Clay, who is already on edge. I can tell that despite knowing where this is leading, Clay is maintaining his cool. Logan turns his attention back to me and starts talking.
