Chapter 62 - Raven

He looks in my direction, a smug look crosses his face. I can't help but feel a twinge of annoyance at his arrogance. It's as if he thinks he's better than everyone else.

"Hi, Raven," Jamie responds. I roll my eyes, not in the mood to deal with his attitude.

"Wait, you two know each other?" Clay asks. "Yeah, we went to high school together," I answer, trying to keep my tone neutral.

"But we weren't exactly friends." Jamie smirks, and I resist the urge to walk away. Before I can say anything, he continues. "I was one of her conquests," Jamie states.

"Excuse me, No, you were not, I told you I didn't care for you, but you were so fixated on me and so naive as to not see the truth," I spew.

"Oh, I see, so you still haven't learned to care for others' emotions, so is Clay here just another one you're playing with?" He taunts, then looks at Clay. "See, Raven here isn't your ordinary girl. She likes to toy with people, especially the boys. Leaving a trail of broken hearts wherever she goes." I can feel the anger radiating off Clay as Jamie continues to speak. "When it comes to Raven, I would use extreme caution. She uses the suffering she causes others to fill the void in her own heart. She enjoys playing, what was the name of the game again? Ah, right. Street chess. I'd try and avoid being a pawn in her upcoming game." Jamie finishes.

I try to take Clay's hand, but he pulls away and leaves. "What the hell, Jamie?"

"I'm sorry, I just want you back." He says with a smug look on his face as Clay disappears.

"You and I were never together, and after all the shit you just pulled, I doubt Jesus Christ himself could save you without burning his hands." His expression is pure gold. The way I spoke to him never sat well with him. The fact that I never carried out his requests infuriated him to his very bones. "Oh, I'm sorry, do you not like my honesty? Well, to be fair, I don't like your lies."

"You clawed your way into my world." He growls. I can feel the anger in his words. My eyes lock on his. "Actually, I crawled my way out of your world into a much better one." I spew.

I turn on my heel and head to find Brie, "Jamie is here," I tell her.

"What? Please don't tell me he taunted Clay?" She looks at me, worried. She can tell by the look on my face that the answer is yes. We leave to look for Clay. We head outside to see him pacing back and forth.

"What was that?" Clay yells at me. I can tell by his demeanour that he's holding himself together because if he doesn't, it won't be a pretty sight.

"I don't know, I told you about him before; he was the one who said he loved me, but I didn't love him back," I tell him.

"Clay, calm down," Logan tells him.

"How can I remain calm after that man told me I'm one of your conquests?" He shouts at me. I back away. I know he is mad, but this is out of my control; he knows I'm scared of him right now since he steps back and paces back and forth, getting angrier by the minute. Brie can feel that I'm going to break down.

"Are you joking right now?" Brie asks him rudely, "After everything you two have been through, are you going to believe some guy? Ray believed you about Sloane and still gave you a chance after you messed up and screwed the town whore, so why not just talk to her instead of exploding like you always do?" She shouts at him. Logan steps in front of her, bracing for the anger that Clay can potentially let go of.

She is right; we have experienced a lot. Why would he trust someone else more than me? I can tell Brie's remarks affected him. My back is to him as he approaches, and I look down. I can overcome this. I don't want him to know how much his comments have upset me, but a tear manages to escape.

"Babe?" He turns me around and cups my face, saying, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled like that. It's just that I love you so much, and I want to be your only one."

"You are my only one, for everything, you know that," I say, holding back the rest of my tears. "It hurts that you would think those things. I thought nothing could come between us, but I guess I was wrong."

I walk away from him, heading back into the house. I run upstairs and lock myself in the bedroom. I can't believe he said that; he honestly thought he was some conquest of mine because someone told him he was. He knows he is my first for anything, including sex and falling in love. I take a deep breath and clean myself up before heading back out. As I close the door behind me in the hall, a voice comes from behind me.

"There you are." I turn to look and say, "Jamie! What are you doing up here?" Annoyed to see him.

"I was looking for you," He says, backing me up against the wall and gripping my wrists.

"Jamie, let go of me!" I warn him. "Let go of me now!" The hall starts to shake, but he doesn't budge.

"You and I, we were supposed to be together. You were supposed to need me." He whispers in my ear.

"Seven billion people in the world, and you think I need you?" I start to laugh. "No. I don't need you, I will never need you." I look him dead in the eyes.

"How can you be with him?" He spews.

"Because I love him!" I shout at him.

"How could you love him? How could you love a monster like that? His kind is the reason Zack is dead!" Anger flows through him.

Hearing Zack's name breaks me. "How...how do you know Zack?" I begin to stutter.

"Didn't Lia tell you anything?" He laughs. "I'm like Zack." I have no words; I'm shocked at what he is saying. His grip tightens, and I wince in pain. I panic, hoping Clay or Logan can feel it. "You broke my heart. Now I'm going to make you pay." He leans in and whispers. "Then kill your boyfriend."

"Contristo,"

And like that, he drops just in time for Clay and Logan to grab him. "Brie, get Ray in the room now!" Clay shouts, we head into Clay's room, and Brie locks the door. "This isn't over!" I hear Jamie yell, then it goes quiet; I don't hear anything coming from the hall. It feels like forever, waiting, and the music stops, so Brie and I decide to go check it out. Heading downstairs, we notice the house is empty, with Clay and Logan nowhere in sight.

"Clay?" I call out. No answer

Where is he?

Brie and I decide to change and clean up. As I stand at the bedroom doorway, I choose to call him; it goes straight to voicemail. I try again, and the same thing happens. I throw my phone on the bed and head back down. An hour goes by when the boys come walking in.

"Where were you?" I demand.

"I went for a walk to clear my head," He tells me. "Don't worry, Logan came with me so I wouldn't do anything stupid."

"So?" I ask timidly.

"He's still alive... for now," Clay states, and the way he said it makes me fear for what's to come. I head upstairs and grab a pillow and blanket. As I leave the room, Clay is standing in the hallway.

"Where are you going?

"I thought that maybe I should sleep in the guest room since you're mad at me. Give you some space, then tomorrow I'll pack my bags and head back to the apartment." I tell him; walking toward the door, he gently wraps his arm around me and pulls me back.

"I'm not mad at you," He says into my hair. "I'm frustrated because we can't seem to catch a break." He turns me around. "I can never be mad at you. I told you I could be an asshole sometimes, but that doesn't mean I'm mad at you."

He leads me back into the bedroom, locking the door behind us. As I lay there, questions run through my mind, have werewolves always been around me? I knew about Zack and his pack, but I had no idea about Jamie. I start to wonder who else I know is hiding in plain sight. I'm brought out of my thoughts when Clay starts to speak.

"Why don't we head out of town? My family has a cabin on the water we could stay at next week, if you want, to get out of here," He tells me.

"That sounds good," I say. I kiss him and let him take control; he wants me and I want him. I would make love to him all night long, and he knows this.
