I make an effort to understand what has happened. Why did they do it? They broke their promise. Despite my efforts to understand what happened, the anger within me is palpable. Their broken truce has ignited a fire inside me, and I can feel the urge to unleash my wrath and cause destruction in retaliation for their thoughtlessness. I can feel the flames growing stronger within me. I'm afraid that if I don't control it, my rage will consume me and everything around me. I take a deep breath and try to calm myself down, but it's getting harder and harder with each passing second.
"Ray?" I feel as though I'm about to break when I look at Clay. Why can't things just be easy? I'm not doing a good job of protecting others, which is my responsibility. All because of a prophecy made many years ago, innocent lives are being taken.
"Let's go pack." The calmness in his voice comforts me, but Clay doesn't seem to realise I'm going to fight back, whether he likes it or not. "Okay," I breathe a sigh of defeat.
⁂
We reach the airport later that evening. What's to come makes me feel apprehensive. I've never been more nervous before boarding a plane than I am right now. I must have fallen asleep, as I feel Clay's breath on my neck. "Babe, wake up. We just landed." He whispers.
My eyes flutter open, and I realise everything I had been thinking about wasn't just another nightmare but the truth. Now that we are back, reality sets in. As we walk out the gates I see Brie's blonde hair swirling in the light breeze.
"Raven," she says, running toward me, hugging me as if I've been gone for years. "Hey, Brie."
"Here," I look over to see Logan handing Clay his keys. "Thanks, mate," Clay says, grabbing them.
As I walk toward the car, I need to know everything that has happened. Clay puts our bags in the trunk, and once done, he turns to all of us. "Think it's time to go home," he states.
"Actually, I was wondering if I could ride with Brie." I look at him. He doesn't question me, he hands me his keys and says, "I'll get a ride with Logan." He leans in with a smile and kisses me, saying, "I'll see you at home."
I lean back on the trunk of the car. Brie and I watch as the boys drive off. I look over at Brie, whose smile disappears when she sees the look in my eyes. "Get in,"
She doesn't hesitate, and she jumps in. I put the key in the ignition and start the car. "What are you hiding from me?" I stare out the window.
"Nothing," Her voice frantic with a bit of fear. My hands tighten around the steering wheel, and I feel the fire burning in my eyes as she sits there and lies. I look over at her and ask one more time, my eyes glow, and she finally answers.
"They threatened Lia." A tear comes down her face. I put the car in drive and head towards the apartment. Running every red light and praying I don't ruin Clay's car.
I should really get my own.
Parking the car and running towards the door, I bypass the elevator and sprint up the stairs. I open the door. "Aunt Lia?" I shout, but there is no response. Brie tries to pass me, but I stop her. "Shhh," I say, putting my finger to my lips.
I block out all noise around me and listen, muffles come from my old room. I slowly walk down the hall, creeping into the room. No one insight, the muffles catch my attention again. I snap my neck to the side, slowly walking to the closet. Opening the door, I see Aunt Lia tied up.
"It's okay, I'm here." I try to calm her as tears come down her face. Her eyes are startled as someone snatches me up and throws me across the room with their strong arms. I take a stance in front of a Lycan.
"You guys really don't know when to stop!" I stare at him. My heart is pounding as I prepare for battle.
"You really thought my father was going to stay true to the truce between us and you?" He starts to laugh, saying, "We will kill everyone you love, we will kill innocent mundanes if we have to until you either die or come to your senses."
"I'd rather die," I say, unamused by his threat. "That can be arranged," he responds with a sinister smile. He lunges toward me.
"Contristo,"
He drops to his knees, and I slowly walk around him and kneel down. "I'm going to make sure you suffer in ways your mind couldn't possibly understand," I whisper in his ear. I smile as I let him breathe. He stands up, gasping for air.
"You, Bitch." He spews as he spits out blood. I walk towards him, eyes blazing with fire, a menacing smile across my face. "Let's send your dear old dad a message, shall we?"
"I'll never be your messenger, I would rather die than do your bidding." He says, standing tall and refusing to back down.
"Who said I needed you alive?" The blood warms on my tongue as I sink my fangs into his neck. I have him in my grasp, but he fumbles. I keep drinking until he stops, I rip his head off of his body, allowing his corpse to crash to the floor. The room is silent except for the sound of my heavy breathing. I feel a rush of power and satisfaction as I stand over his lifeless body, and as I look down at my hands, still stained with his blood, I realise that this is my life now.
"Libera,"
The word runs through my mind. His head disappears from my hand, being delivered to his father. I take a deep breath and look over at Brie, holding Aunt Lia. Shock covers their faces. They knew what would happen once they awakened me, they shouldn't be surprised.
That's my girl. The voice inside me echoes in my head. I smile and lick my fingers.
"Pack your bags, you're not staying here by yourself." I walk out of the room, shouting as I leave, "I'll be in the car."
"Ignis,"
I light the body on fire, "Raven!" Aunt Lia shouts, "Let it burn, the body will disappear, and no reminisce will be left behind, not even burn marks." Brie heads upstairs with Lia to help her pack for the long stay that is in front of us. I walk outside, letting the sun hit my face. I look down and realise my shirt is covered in blood. "Crap," I whisper to myself as I get in the car.
⁂
Moments later, Brie and Aunt Lia walk out. Placing her bags in the back and getting in. The drive back to Clay's is quiet. Not a word between the three of us. As I pull into the driveway, I look over at Brie and say, "Can you get Logan and Clay to help with the bags? I need to get some air."
"Of course," she smiles. I step out, heading towards the woods. The dirt crunches beneath my feet as I make my way deeper into the forest. The fresh air fills my lungs and I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to clear my mind. The past few days have been overwhelming and I need a moment to myself. As I continue to walk, I can hear the sound of a nearby stream. I follow the sound until I reach a small clearing. The sun shines down through the trees, casting a warm glow on everything around me. I take a seat on a fallen log and let out a sigh.
