EMILYN

I have never once considered ever in interfering with the main storyline of this world. Frankly, I see no point in it especially when knowing that even in my absence, good will come in the end. But my consciences---for the past month---lead me to think otherwise. "Commander, I beg this once---as I rarely ask---place me in the right wing." I pleaded to him. "Again, Emilyn, No." The Commander replied in full-on denial. "I beg you." I repeat, "Please." My view on his face transitioned to the floor as I stooped my head down. My hair, drooping to the sides of my face but my arms lay firm next to my body as I echoed once again in desperation, "Please."

I felt the Commander's eyes dig down on the back of my head as I remained bent forward, "What made you like this, Emilyn? What is your intention? You are bowing to me, begging and downcast. This is unlike you and I don't understand." "You needn't understand, Commander. However, I sincerely hope you consider this humble request of mine still: Put me in the right wing." His voice was firm as it always was, "Get up and explain. Let me hear what you have to say." I raised my head, and I could see that he was instilling unto me a look of suspicion hidden behind a face that for a long time has always been unreadable. Of course, that is unless you are the same type of monster. "Thank you, Commander." I answer with the same humdrum as he is, in voice and in expression. However, he dismissed it by saying, "That's enough with that. Go straight to your point."

"Among the newer recruits," I said, "stands one I've known for long. I wish to keep an eye on them." I explained and said nothing more, for I only say what is necessary especially around individuals whose wits are as sharp as a blade. He waited for a moment and saw that I had nothing else to say, "Is that all?" he questioned, and I answered, "Yes." "Emilyn." He sighed alongside a head that tilted downwards. With just that, I knew he was going to refuse my proposal. Even so, instead of rejecting me right then and there, he took this opportunity and interrogated, walking a few steps closer as I stood in attention, "This recruit, what is he to you?" I thought it out, "A...important person." "Is that so?" "Yes." "You happen to be very careful with your words today more than usual. I have to ask, why is it that you find it necessary to keep an eye on her?" The Commander was cross-examining me, and I knew that as we spoke, he was devising on who I was intending by changing the pronouns in his sentences. But as he said, I was careful, and he knew it, "I have debts, Sir." I said to him. His face a tad surprised, "A debt? You?" "Yes, Commander." He paused, "How?" To which, I respond hastily enough in a topic that would soften the heart of anyone, "A life, Commander, one whom which I owe mine." He neither nodded nor appeared to have an impression upon hearing my response; nevertheless, he turned around and answered, "I see."

Obviously speaking, I had to restrain my urges of approaching her. The Commander was a great man, a wonderful leader; he still is. However, if needed, he can turn into a beast. Anyone whose spent and experienced long enough under his leadership can see what monstrosity he transforms into, being able to sacrifice the lives of his members from one to hundreds if necessary, especially during operations. I wasn't about to let this man---one whom I've known for years---find out that I've just discovered my greatest weakness not so long ago. But then again, I can't deny that I put my trust in him when it comes to these things. "Emilyn." "Commander." He paused, still having his back turned against me, "I am on your side. You don't need to be so on guard." He said, but just as he refuses to face me as he spoke his words, I too refused to ease my stiffened shoulders. "How important is this to you?" He asked. "It's personal," I said, "but very, Commander." He questions for the last time that day: "Would you die for this?" "I won't." I retort without hesitation, "but I would. Yes." A delay in three seconds was what it took for him to conclude his response and face me in the eyes.
