"You will soon find out," Ava says.

"No. You'll tell me now." She's so full of fire. Ava just walks out. She doesn't even think about the fact that I'm still here. Free. "What do we do?" It takes me a second to realize she's talking to me.

"Uh-"

"How about you take a shower. You rank."

"Thanks. Love you too..." She helps me off of the table, and over to the elevator. She presses the down button.

We patiently wait as we reach level eight. We head to my room, and I open the door. "I'll wait out here," Kenzie says.

"Ok," I smile at her. She doesn't smile back this time. Maybe that's a good thing. It's better than faking it. I close the door. I take off Kenzie's dream catcher that I'm still wearing, and place it on the sink counter. It's the longest one I've ever taken. Is she going to put me back in that cell?

I get dressed, and step back outside the door. "Here's your dream catcher back..."

"No, it's ok," she pushes my hand back toward my neck.

"Take it." She lowers her hand, and I put it on around her neck. "I don't want you having nightmares again..."

"You don't have them?"

"No, never have. You know that."

"So you can stop this. You can cure yourself. Why won't you?"

"It's harder than that."

"I did it."

"You don't understand..."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I do."

"Really? One minute, I love you. And you're here, and know you're real. The next minute, I feel the Flare itching at my brain. I don't love you. And you're not real."

"I thought you were trying to prove that we had different situations..."

It's true. The same thing did happen to her. And she believed it was me. She believed the impossible. And now I'm standing here, saying I can't do the same for her. "No. You're right. I-"

"Slim it, Newt. I'm not gonna be the one to put you back in that hell hole. Enjoy your freedom..." She turns, and walks away from me.

"And I never left you," I raise my voice to her as she walks to the elevator.

"You're right," she looks over her shoulder to say to me, "You always came back." She disappears into the elevator. I hate it when she's right. I turn around, and walk into my room. Maybe finally I can get some sleep.
