"Where are we going?" I find myself asking out loud.

"To inform the others of your survival."

"It's been a week, why haven't you told them already?"

"There are more important matters to attend to than telling your friends that you came back from the dead. Many things-"

"How did that happen?"

"I guess you didn't want to die. you were only dead for a couple of seconds. Just long enough to evacuate the room."

I nod my head. I can't help but think about Newt. What can I say to make him believe it's me? "So where is everyone at?"

"I have already arranged a meeting in advance. The Gladers are gathered in the same meeting room as last time."

The elevator doors open, and we step into the large room with fifty teenagers sitting in the first few rows. They're all speaking so loud, they don't even notice me and Ava's arrival. We step up on the stage, and all of their attention points to me.

"Rather surprising, yes?" Ava says through the mic. They don't respond. Just stare at me with wide eyes. "She woke up moments after you all were ordered out." She scans the crowd of confused Gladers, whose eyes are still fixated on me.

"Kenzie?" I hear Lily say. She's sitting next to Thomas, whose eyes are watering. I'm not sure why, though.

The crowd breaks out into conversation, and Ava raises her hands to quiet them. "I can assure you that this is the real McKenzie." She must have heard someone ask something like that in the crowd. "Newt currently has his mind set on the fact that she is fake. Well, what's left of his mind." I give her a harsh glare, but she isn't looking at me. "McKenzie will not be around for long, we have work to do."

"Work to do?" Thomas yells over the quiet chatters that have aroused, "Give her a break! She's done all of the shuck experiments you wanted-"

"Actually, no. She has not. We have only begun. I don't think you want to be the one standing in the way of these poor infected and the cure, anyway." She smiles one last time at the audience, then motions me to follow her out of the room.
Something's off about her...

"You're going to need to make him believe you, and soon. He is not a huge concern to me, and we have work to be done." We reach the level we were previously on. "I will come back for you in a few minutes." I step out of the elevator, and look back at her. "Don't do anything...ignorant." The door closes, and I didn't realize how fast my heart is beating. I turn around, walk straight forward, then make a right. I see the two guards standing in front of Newt's cell.

"Hey, Newt." He's sitting in the corner. He has to be dehydrated. Non stop crying for weeks. He just stares at me. "I don't know what to say..."

He clenches his jaw, and his head twitches suddenly. I look up at the ceiling to hold back the tears that swell up in my eyes. I fiddle with my ring that rests on my left ring finger. I will always come back for you. I say over and over in my mind. Please come back, Newt.

"Then leave!" He screams at me.

I look down at him. I feel a tear fall down my cheek, and I close my eyes at the dry feeling it gives them.
