I only get to stare at her for a few seconds, before I am snatched up by the arm. I turn around to see who it is. There's two guards. "No! No, it's ok. He's not doing anything!" I hear Kenzie yell at them. I look back at her. She has her hand out, as if she's trying to keep me calm. But I know she's just doing it for herself. Ava walks up to us, and scans me.
"He still has the virus. I am not sure of how comfortable people will be with a Crank running around."
"He's not a Crank," she snaps back, "Go ahead. Test him. He's no more infected than I am."
I just stare at her. I love the fact that she's defending me. It gives me a surge of hope. Hope that says she still loves me. Hope that says...that she's ever loved me. Sometimes, I get a feeling she doesn't. Or maybe, that she doubts if she does. But right now, it's hard to have any fault in my mind that she loves me.
"Fine. Take them both up to the lab. If she is more infected than he is, set him free."
"But you're...immune, aren't you?" I ask. It sounded weaker than I expected. More like a child. She just looks at me with guilty eyes as the guards turn me around. "Kenzie?" I say with my last second of seeing her face, before my back is completely towards her. Kenzie?
There aren't many people in front of us by this time. We step into the line for the elevator. I say line...more like a crowd. The soldiers get tired of waiting after a few seconds, so they just start pushing people out of the way.
