I stare at the door for who knows how long. That didn't just happen. I realize that the top of my shirt I soaked in tears. How long have I been standing here?
I knock at the door. No answer. "Kenzie." I knock again. I hear another voice. It sounds like Lily. "Lily, tell her to come out here." Silence. "Kenzie, please." I can't help but be so desparate for her. I rest my head against the door while my sobs are muffled by it. It takes at least five minutes before I finally leave.
I remember the Bergs landing, and rush down back to the guys.
"Dude where did you go?" Thomas asks, followed by Minho with, "And why do you look like you just 'got pulled out from a night in the maze'," he rolls his eyes as he quotes me.
"Shut your hole, Minho, I'm not in the mood," I push his face with my hand. "What happened?"
"I don't know. They all left the room without saying anything," Aris answers.
"And Minho got turned down," Thomas says with a laugh.
"No, I didn't! It's hard keeping a long distance relationship when you're in love. It's just going to take some time for her to get over the traumatizing lack of Minho in-"
He's cut off by the bursting laughter by Aris and Thomas. He tries to shut them up, but fails.
"So, what? We just wait here?" I ask, still not in the mood.
"Let's go talk to Ava," Thomas suggests, knowing that it might start something up. He has that smirk on his face.
"But seriously, she gave me a look. You guys saw it. Something's wrong," Minho tries to defend himself by saying.
"Come on, let's just see if you're right," Aris says as he heads towards the elevator.
We all follow, hoping that nothing is going on. But I am. I'm hoping that something really terrible happens so that Kenzie will be right. So that maybe she'll love me again...
"Dude, did someone kick your puppy or something?" Minho asks in the elevator. I just look away from him. There's no point in telling anyone what's wrong. This isn't over. It can't be. She has to love me still. She just has to.
"I don't own a puppy," I whisper under my breath. Now that I think about it...that was childish of me to say- and a little weird.
"What the shuck? It's a figure of speech," he snaps back.
"Leave him alone, Minho. But seriously, get off your man period," Thomas directs at me.
The elevator reaches the destination, so we all step out one by one.
"Ava! What's up home-girl?" Minho says, his hand in the air as if asking for a high-five.
"What is going on?" Thomas begins, ignoring Minho, "Did Right Arm loose?"
"I'm getting a little tired of all of these questions. You want the cure, don't you?" Ava asks. I stand in the back of the group, staring down at my shoes.
"No, I hate humanity," Minho sarcastically sasses in.
"Yeah, and?" Aris says slowly.
"Kenzie has agreed to do what she needs to get it; will you four do the same?"
"Yes, and I think I speak for all of us," Thomas answers directly after she finishes her question.

"Good, take them."

Take them. Guards with launchers step out of nowhere. I stumble backwards away from them. "What are you doing?" Thomas yells at her as he is injected with a serum.
"Finding the cure." This isn't good. I turn, and head for the starwells, bursting through the door. I run, or limp, as fast as I can with the sound of foostesps from gaining soldiers stalking behind me.
And they're gaining.
I quickly grab the rail, swinging myself over it to the lower steps. The men do the same, but their overweighted equipment hinder them from making any process by doing so. Perks of being scrawny as shuck.
I need to make it to Kenzie. I need to warn her. "You signed up for this!" One of them breathlessly calls out to me. Whatever she wants, no, I didn't.

Then again, I did.

But why would she try to arrest us? I keep jumping over the rails, the guards lagging further behind. I smile out of arrogance for my accomplishment.

Level 8.

That was quick. I swing the door open, slamming it behind me. There's a keypad on the wall beside it.

Emergency lock.

I press it rapidly, probably like eighty times, then spin on my heels to keep on my rout. I reach her room, and bang on the door so loud, I was sure I put a hole in it. "Slim it!" I hear her voice say as she opens the door.

"Kenzie, they're coming," I choke out. I didn't notice how tired I was. But just the sight of her made everything seem alright.
