~***~
He never knew his mother. This young boy is now ten years old, he had flame like coloured tips in his hair, his eyes were a mix of colours. His left eye was orange, his right eye was as blue as ice. He was the rarest Phoenix hybrid.
His mother was a fire Phoenix hybrid while his father was an ice Phoenix hybrid. Grian was on display to the suitor alpha's that walked by him. He wrapped his wings around himself for comfort, they dimly sparked fire and dripped water. His powers were so weak, even his eye colours were dim.
He prayed for someone to help him, actually help him. He wheezed while he slumped against the wall. The wounds on his legs, torso, arms, everywhere, were either covered in dried blood or was currently bleeding. He whined as he laid down, his wings fading in colour almost to grey.
Then he heard shouts, he jumped at first but was too tired to even fight back.
~!!!~
Ren and Xisuma were both walking down a hall where they saw a sign that led them down another hall.
"'Rare Birds'?" Xisuma read, "Part of me wants to see what's here but the other part of me wants to get them all our of here."
"X, you're a mess. How are you the lieutenant?"
"Experience I guess."
As they were walking down, they opened the cages of the crying hybrids.
Ren on the other hand, once backup arrived, walked down the hall reading the signs.
"Honduran Emeralds, Orange-Bellied Parrots, Boobrie's..." He found a tiny cage near the ground and saw the sign read, 'Phoenix'. Ren opened the cage himself and reached for the young boy. But the moment his fingers grazed the winged boy's foot, he woke and scrambled quickly away from Ren, "Hey, hey, it's okay! I'm a police officer, I'm here to help you."
The boy almost frantically shook his head. Ren noticed the young boy's dulled colours and rolled over a water bottle and a marshmallow bag. Grian looked at the goods and drank the water greedily.
Ren smiled when Grian started eating the marshmallows.
"Ren!" Xisuma shouted walking down, then when he saw Grian with a bag of marshmallows, he chuckled, "Do you just randomly carry a bag of marshmallows with you?"
"Uh, actually, I forgot I had them in my inventory before you picked me up." Ren said, he then saw the young child staring at him, "He's a phoenix hybrid, Xisuma."
Xisuma chuckled and radioed for a stretcher. The young bird hybrid started crawling and reaching towards Ren. Ren reached in and picked up the young boy, the clothes on him were torn in so many places and he laid him on the stretcher.
He saw a collar on the child and took it off. As he read the tag on it, he handed it to Xisuma, "I'm gonna ride with him."
Xisuma nodded as Ren walked off and followed the paramedics.
~Time Skip Four Months~
Grian was asleep, he kicked under his blankets and whined.
"No...."
"Stop..."
"I dont want it..."
He started whining Ren's name, his toes started curling, attempting to claw at the blanket below him. His hind claws came out as his whines started growing louder.
A light shined on his eyes as his stuttering whines got progressively louder, he felt a hand on his cheek and woke whimpering.
"Hey.. hey, it's okay..." Ren whispered, "I'm here."
Ren wiped away the tears against the young boys face, Grian hugged the taller man, "I had the nightmare again..." He cried, "I didn't want any of it."
Ren put his chin on Grian's shoulder as he held him close, "I know... I'm sorry I can't make the pain go away buddy."
"I don't want those memories anymore!"
"I know... I know buddy."
Grian wrapped his wings around himself and Ren. His ice wings feeling nice against his warm cheeks.
"Y-You won't leave me... Right?"
Ren pulled the young boy's face to his, "Never. I'll always be here to protect you."
~!!!~
Xisuma who was walking down the hall with a chilled glass of water saw Grian's door open and heard whispering inside. He cocked an eyebrow and walked in, "What's going on?"
"He had the nightmare again." Ren whispered, holding Grian in his arms bridal style then setting him in the bed, "He's scared, X... And I don't think he's ever going to recover."
He rubbed the large scar that was splayed horizontal across Grian's arm.
"After what he went through Ren, I wouldn't be surprised. He's only ten. The moment he 'presented' he was put to 'work'."
"I know..." He watched Grian as he slept for a moment, "I don't want him to live in fear."
"He was held in captivity for ten years, Ren... He's scared, he's traumatized. He's just a kid, I wish his powers had kicked in earlier so we could have tracked him down quicker. That ring he was in was brutal." Xisuma remembered the horrified faces and haunting cries that came from the omega's, beta's, and the rarest Alpha's, "It just wasn't right that they were in there for as long as they were. The only thing most of them know is submission. And Grian...." He glanced at the sleeping child who was holding Ren's hand, "Grian was lucky to get out and be brought home with us."
"Yeah... But you remember what he looked like. He was in so much pain, Xisuma. When I found him in that tiny cell, I just... I was horrified at how he looked. He's just a kid, X."
"Yeah, and that's why you're his favourite. Because you found him, and you helped and took care of him. You showed him kindness and that he could trust you."
Ren smiled as he watched Grian's fire tipped curls waved in his sleep. Grian's left wing was bright and warm, the flames just warm enough to keep his body heat regulated. His right wing kept the blanket cool. Ren sat on the edge of the bed and started running his hand over Grian's hair. Grian smiled, Xisuma and Ren began to hear Grian purring.
"Adorable." Xisuma chuckled, "Try and get some sleep."
By morning, Ren woke up first and chuckled, realizing that Grian's left wing was across the both of them. Grian whined the movement and cuddled into Ren, holding the taller man's arms tightly.
Grian peeked through his heavy eyelids and smiled up at Ren. Before the person he viewed as his could say anything, he cuddled himself in Ren's lap and went back to sleep.
Ren smiled at the squeaky yawn Grian made. He picked the small Phoenix hybrid up and brought him downstairs to try and get him awake enough to eat breakfast.
