Gabe was sitting at lunch with his friends, glaring at Lucian when Keeley plopped down beside him. She didn't ever sit with him because she was busy fluttering around the cafe, visiting everyone she could. "So. Who are you taking to Prom?"
Gabe froze. What? Prom? Shit he never gave Prom a thought. Holy shit. He couldn't take Lucian because no one knew! Did he talk to Lucian? He didn't want to push it.
"Gabe?"
"Uh, I don't think I'm go...." Gabe was punched in the shoulder. "Ow!"
"You are going! I'm going with Frankie Smith! He just asked me! Can you believe it? I know that he's one of Lucian's friends but you will have to get over it. It's Prom for crying out loud!" Keeley smiled with a glare. He couldn't figure out how she did that.
"Who am I going to go with? I'm not dating anyone, Keeley!" Gabe sighed.
"There are tons of guys that would go with you! Maybe pick a hottie and turn him gay! You could do that! Look at you and don't look at me like that, Gabe Brown! You are sexy as fuck and everyone in this building knows it! Guys are always staring at you. Ask one. Throw a rock, whoever it hits, take him." Keeley shrugged.
Gabe just laughed. He took a breath and made eye contact with Lucian, who was watching him. "Maybe I'll take Lucian Nichols!"
Keeley almost fell off the bench from laughter. "Right! You might have to change your aim...a little. I heard that Lucian and Kim did it at the last party! I doubt that he would go. He probably has the whole senior class of girls going with him!"
Gabe nodded. "Probably!" He sighed. He was asking his man after school. His phone vibrated. He pulled it out and read the text from his dad...who had never texted him.
Dad: Gabe, dinner at home tonight at six. We are having guests. We need to talk. Love you, Dad.
Gabe: Okay? What did I do?
Dad: nothing...that I know of, guilty conscience? Remember six, dinner. Please. Have a good day. I love you, son.
Gabe had other things to worry about now. His dad just called him son and said he loved him. Was his dad dying? That was how they started the 'we have to tell you some bad news...' when he found out his mom was dying. This was the same feeling.
"What happened?" Keeley saw Gabe wipe a tear.
"Nothing. This!" He showed her his phone.
Keeley sighed. "I'm sure this isn't that. It can't be serious! It's okay..."
Gabe jumped up and rushed out of the cafe. He was in a panic when arms wrapped around him. He turned into Lucian as tears fell.
"What? You okay?" Lucian whispered. "Maybe...an empty room?" He pulled Gabe into a corner room. It used to be a music room but that was moved when they added another floor. This was storeage now. "What happened?" He was freaking out.
Gabe inhaled. He showed Lucian the phone. He read the texts.
"Shit! Gabe..." Lucian showed him his conversation with his father.
Dad: Lucian, dinner tonight at six. It's long overdue. We need to talk.
Lucian: What did I do?
Dad: what did you do? Not everything is about you, Lucian. I have things to talk to you about. Be home. We are going out and talking. Not a request.
Lucian: okay.
Dad: I love you, Lucian.
Lucian: Scaring me, Dad. Talk tonight.
Dad: Thanks. Have a great day.
Lucian: Dad, you too.
Gabe stared at the very similar conversation. "Shit! Do they know about us? If Walter told my dad...I will kill him. I told him that in confidence!" He looked at Lucian. "I accidentally told my uncle that we were trying to date. He was thrilled and said he saw that coming. He thinks he knows everything!"
Lucian laughed. "He's pretty smart. So..what about tonight! What if my dad finds out I'm gay?!"
Gabe sighed. "My dad knows I'm gay! What would your dad do?"
Lucian sighed a heavy sigh. "I have no idea to be honest. He always seemed cool? I don't know! I'm going to be sweating through school now! I want six to be here to get it over with!"
Gabe smiled. "I love hanging out with you. I feel so much better, Luc. Thanks." He leaned in and kissed Lucian. "Better get back in there or your fan girls will be sick with worry!"
"Can't have that. And Gabriel, you are the only fan girl that I care about!" Lucian leaned in and kissed Gabe, who melted.
