Tyler's POV
"It's not fair!" I scream to the wall. Luckily it can't say back life's not fair.
It's been almost a full month since it happened. Since the worst thing in my life happened. Autumn's fall didn't seem that bad, but something happened that the doctors didn't expect. They said she would wake up almost two weeks ago. She still hasn't.
Yesterday she flat lined. I was sitting in the chair right next to her when it happened. I was about to fall asleep when I heard I loud beep. The nurse happened to be in here checking out her cords. Autumn started having seizures. Then a lot of nurses came in. One of them tried to usher me out. I was screaming and crying for Autumn. The last thing I saw before they got me out of the room was someone on top of Autumn doing CPR. They made me go into the waiting room till they got it under control. It was almost an hour of torture waiting till we got news.
Luke and I have been here the most. I haven't left. My dad came and brought me clothes for a while. I take showers in the hospitals bathroom. I won't leave Autumn's side until she is awake. I make that promise to myself everyday.
I go through the same routine. Wake up, check and see if Autumn is awake, brush my teeth, eat, talk to Autumn, talk to the doctors, take a shower, eat some more, and sleep until the next day.
Currently I am on step 5: talk to Autumn. Of corse she never talks back. The doctors told me this morning that since she got brain damage and she was still asleep it caused her to flatline yesterday. They said her brain wouldn't let her heal. They mentioned something about a punctured lung and stopped breathing before I stopped listening. Ever since then I haven't left her side.
I am so consumed in my thoughts I don't hear the doctor come in.
"Tyler. I am sorry but we are going to have to pull the plug on Autumn. She doesn't look like she will make it. I am so sorry."
What?! What did he just say? No. This can't be.
"No! She can make. She is so strong and she is a fighter. Please don't do it. Please." I tell him
"I am sorry but we have no other choice."
"No!" I scream,"Let me talk to her one last time first."
"Ok, but you have five minutes."
I turn a way from him as the tears cloud my eyes and start talking to Autumn.
"Come on Autumn wake up. Come on open your beautiful eyes." I say as the tears flow more heavily and as I take her hand into mine.
"Squeeze my hand if you can hear me." I squeeze her hand to get a squeeze in return. It is very faint but I can still feel it.
"Look!" I scream to her family in her room.
"She squeezed my hand! Everyone look. Autumn darling squeeze my hand again please." I say hopping she can hear me. She squeezes even harder this time. "Did you see that?" I question to the room.
"Autumn. Listen to me. Focus on my voice. I know your there. But they don't. You have been there for a while now. You fell almost a month ago. Come on Autumn. I know you can do it. They say if you don't wake up they will pull your plug. Please Autumn prove them wrong. I miss you so much. Life isn't complete without you. You gave us a pretty good scare once. You... you.. you flatlined. You...you were dead. But then you came back. Like you were given a second chance to make things right. They said something with your brain isn't letting you heal. They said it will once you wake up. So please I beg of you wake up." I say giving all of my effort into my speech.
Suddenly her eyelids start to flutter open. She takes a minute to adjust to the bright light.
"Who--" she clears her throat.
"Who are you?" She asks me.
She doesn't remember me? The girl of my dreams doesn't remember me? You could hear a pin drop in that room. You could also see the sadness on my face.
