Twenty One*

The reckoning.

The sound of dozens of mouse traps snapping filled the classroom. It has been senior prank night at Mystic High and Caroline recruited her friends to join her. They'd set up a classroom with the traps only for Matt Donovan to enter and ruin it all.

"Ohh! Come on! Seriously?!" Caroline exclaimed, she was more than frustrated. "Do you know how long it took for us to set all this up?!"

"Only for Matt to come in and ruin it all, as always." Natasha said from the doorway of the classroom.

"Nat!" Caroline and Bonnie exclaimed as the rushed up to the door, pushed Matt out fo the way, and hugged Natasha.

"If you're here... Where's Stefan?" Elena asked, an eyebrow raised at the girl.

It was in that moment that everyone remembered Elena was in the room. They'd been more focused on Natasha's return and Matt's mistake to focus on Elena.

"Not here. I don't know where he is. He and Klaus had a Klefan moment and there was a little moment reunion, and the next thing I knew I was back on a flight for Mystic Falls."

"Forgot about senior prank night?" Tyler asked from the other side of the classroom, trying to ease the tension coming from Elena's glare. "Clearly." Matt replied, side eyeing the girls next to him.

"How could you forget? We've only been waiting for this since like Freshman year." Caroline pulled away from Natasha and somewhat glared at Matt.

"Yeah, Matt. If I'm doing this, you're doing this." Elena spoke up.

"I'm kind of surprised any of you are doing this." Matt said. Tyler threw his arms up in defeat as Caroline rolled her eyes.

"Caroline's making us." Bonnie said from besides Natasha. "We're about to be seniors. These are memories that stay with us forever, and if we don't-" Caroline started.

"And if we don't create these memories now, then what's the point of it all?" Elena mocked.

"Go ahead and make fun, I don't care. Nat's back and she's a lot more fun with sort of thing."

"Hell yeah she is. You're all lame. Nat, you wanna help me prank ten more classrooms?" Tyler said as he grabbed his duffel bag of supplies and headed for the door.

"I'll meet you in the chemistry lab?" Natasha said. He nodded and then walked out.

Elena then followed after. "Where are you going?" Bonnie asked. "To superglue Alaric's desk shut... I'm making memories." Elena responded, having a smile from on Caroline's face.

"I love you!" Caroline told Elena as she exited the room.

"So, Klaus just let you come back? No strings attached?" Bonnie asked as she helped Caroline set the traps up again.

"I was never a hostage. I stayed for Stefan. I didn't want him to be alone as his ripper self with Klaus for a mentor."

"I'll be right back. I want to go check on Tyler. I can't let him have all the fun." Natasha said, Caroline and Bonnie nodded as Natasha walked out of the room.

She turned the corner and saw Elena at the grasp of Klaus. "You're supposed to be dead. She's supposed to be dead, is she not?" Klaus turned from Elena to Natasha.

"Natasha, help me!" Elena didn't ask but instead practically demanded.

"I'm sorry, Elena. But it was only a matter of time." Natasha said. "You sold me out?!" Elena exclaimed, Klaus's grip got tighter around Elena's arm.
