Our Shadows
Our shadows, that is yours and mine
Have one thing in common
They have no freedom of choice
And follow us around like dogs on leads
Isn't this an infringement of their Human Rights?
At first, I was happy to sit in the dark
While mine took a rest from barking at my feet
But after a while we became depressed
This is quite common when starved of vitamin D
Something else I discovered whilst scratching round in the dark
Is that twice a year we cast no shadow
So, to be in the right place at the right time, I traveled halfway around the world
Like a sentry I stood on the spot, dutifully guarding my shadow
And excitedly watched as it slowly disappeared
I was elated and waved my arms in celebration
But to my dismay, shadows of my arms appeared, like helicopter rotors
Footnote:
The moral here is, nothing is quite what it seems, there's always some other truth, lurking in the shadows.
