He arrived at a time of desperation
A frightening period of trepidation
There was a desperate need to fill a gaping void
So much had been lost, at one hell of a cost
The problems were lined up like ducks in a row
But it was you who was the duck, and you moved too slow
You could no longer avoid the potshots aimed at you
It is always worse when they come from the ones you love
When you are the joyful glue that normally binds us all together
Your own suffering is ignored, you are expected to weather every storm
But that is impossible when you are all at sea and all hope is lost
We feared for your destiny as you tried but failed to swim
But you were saved by another lost and lonely stranger
He came seeking love and attention, two mortals found an instant connection
All it took was one little cuddle and unconditional affection
You took him home and named him Hope, he was your resurrection
