Oxidization

I remember walking across that old Iron Bridge

Even as a child, my parents always warned me

Be careful where you step, it is ready to crumble

I can't confess that I really understood

For they were forever, giving warnings

But things were worse than they suspected

And ten years later it was the center of a disaster

We were all at the church, praying to our lord and master

Below the waterline, nature had been at work

Where rusting pylons had broken from their foundations

It was a heavy price the town had to pay

There were those who saw it as karma

It was the Lord Mayors show

Money spent on pomp and ceremony

It would have been more wisely spent on repairs

The mayor and his entourage were heading the parade

It was a windy day, and the flags were flying high

There was a large gust, and a crack, followed by silence

Then in a flash, the bridge collapsed

As did the mayors show
