The Ascension
Heart beats alone
Dower times ahead
Teary bleak faces
Lined empty roads
Rainy skies above
Soggy pants adorn
Bowed crowd mourn
Merry vicar prays
Vivid pyres burnt
Fire's ashes spent
Freed after death
Tribe Elder woman
Walks ahead among
Eden's godly lands
Meets Saint Peter
Enter pearl gates
Joins other souls
Footnote: With the choice of using only five-letter words, this poem was surprisingly difficult to write, particularly from a flow perspective I think it could have been a bit smoother. But most importantly it succeeds in capturing the sadness of a tribal elder's funeral and her spiritual journey taken shortly after, but like all things, it will be down to your personal perspective.
