Laurent didn't like to see other people dance with his brother.

It wasn't so much jealousy as it was a nagging voice in the back of his head telling him that someone was currently getting close to his twin in a way that was usually reserved for him.

See, Larry could be a bit standoff-ish sometimes, especially with strangers. Even some of their closest friends who had known them for years never fully got to know Larry because he rarely got 'real' with anyone. When he was dancing though,... when he was dancing he allowed himself to open up to people. He put a lot of himself into each movement. He put his whole heart into every rhythmic jolt of muscles. He gave blood to the fans. Blood and sweat and tears. He bore his soul to the world.

And to see him like that, to see him laying his heart out on a silver platter, telling stories of a lifetime with every move, with every beat, with every word in the lyrics with someone other than himself? Laurent hated it. It made his skin crawl with unease, seeing someone else trying to follow along with Larry's insane speed and musicality and failing miserably.

That's why they usually didn't work with other dancers unless it was part of a project or something. Because it just didn't feel right to have anyone else beside them.

But as it was, John had asked Larry to practice a bit after one of their workshops, to show him a few moves which he'd been trying to get a hang of. And while they were both dead on their feet and ready for a hot shower and to order some late-night room service at the hotel, Larry had always had a bit of a soft spot for John. So he had agreed and Laurent had begrudgingly resigned himself to wait for them.

It was supposed to be a quick one, but almost an hour and a half later, Larry and John were still goofing off with each other while Laurent pretended to be interested in his phone. He had actually spaced out there for a second or two, but it was John's voice that jolted him back to attention. "—grab you like this so it looks like I'm snapping your neck, right?"

Out of his periphery vision, Laurent saw John settle into a loose stance behind Larry. He was smaller than Larry, so he got up on his tiptoes and wrapped one hand around Larry's chin, the other one reaching up to grasp at his mouth and nose.

It was meaningless. Just a goddamn dance move. They'd done it a million times and Laurent had never once even blinked or flinched at the thought of his brother's hands on his neck or face, doing the exact same thing. He had never even stopped to think about the dangers of the move. About how easy it was to get caught up in the throes of the music, to get too hyped up on adrenaline, put a little bit too much force in the movement. There was absolutely no doubt in his mind that he was safe in Larry's hands. That his twin brother would never do anything to risk hurting him. But it wasn't Laurent's hand on Larry's neck right now.

It was John's.

And from where he was sitting, with John's hand cupped around Larry's mouth and nose and the other one 'pretend'-twisting his neck from the back, it looked a whole lot like John was about to actually hurt Larry. Like he was about to actually snap his neck.

Laurent saw red and suddenly he was across the room. He didn't even remember dropping his phone on the ground or getting up or crossing the distance to them. In fact, his brain function didn't snap back until he had John pressed back-first against the mirror wall, fisting two handfuls of his shirt and towering threateningly over him. "You don't touch him like that."

John's eyes were huge and full of surprise. He shrunk back from Laurent but Laurent only gripped him tighter, slamming him lightly against the back wall for emphasis. "Not like that. You understand me?"

"Laurent! Stop!" Larry grabbed Laurent by the shoulder. "We were just playing around."

Laurent shook Larry off without looking at him, his razor sharp focus never wavering from John.
