Bandana Dee

Kirby seemed surprised at the fact that Ms. Iparis isn't the only one who is a prodigy of the Republic. I have no idea what this means to our lives, or if we're even gonna get home. The night passes on as I sleep soundly, but I can still remember waking up at times to Kirby, shuddering. No idea why. Maybe he has the same thoughts as me?

We split up after the man who is keeping Kirby drops us off at the HQ. During the drive, I was able to meet one of Kirby's new friends, this guy named Lancer. Kirby gave me permission to gift the Fighter headband as my own to Lancer, and I could see the joy in the guy's face. There was also some stuff on the JumboTrons, stuff like "Notorious Criminal Known As Day Arrested" and "Teen Renegade Known As Day Claims To Work Alone, No Affiliation With The Patriots" I think that's the thing I was in, since Meta Knight explained it to me.

Today, Meta Knight sent me and Kaede to search any remaining Knights and Dees around to join us. We're also supposed to check on other Patriots on whatever the heck they're doing. I still have my torn bandana to make it look like a headband, and I was given a new spear from Blade Knight: it's similar to a fork, which was purple. I also put some mud on my face, like I'm off to war or something.

Our first destination was the chinese-themed bar, which was FILLED with people. I swear, it's possible that ALL of the enemies from Ripple Star were there. Tables are basically filled with grease, Skiz fights nearby have screams of enemies in them, and Scarfys keep stealing food off the dishes. This is where we reach our first Patriot, this guy named Cog. Way too similar to the C.O.G.S from Resolution Road. He seems to know how to use a gun, and doesn't like heights much.

Cog instantely reconizes us. "Oh great, Ms Cheater and Mr Pink Golfball's Basketball friend. What do you want from me?" He's near the counter, holding some kind of wine. Kawasaki isn't there washing dishes. Wonder what he's doing now? "Join your weird Patriot gang?"

"Exactly, Cog." Kaede replies. "And yet despite your skills, you never seem to join."

"If Day didn't do it, neither am I."

I speak up. "You know Day was recently arrested, right?"

"Hey basketball, he went the horrible way with helping that girl and your little puffball friend."

"How'd ya know about Kirby?"

Cog ignores me. "Anyways, I go alone. There is nothing you can convince me to bring me to the Patriots."

"Not even if we have muffins?" Kaede says.

"Nope. Not a muffin guy."

"Well," I say, "is there anything you always wanted in your life?"

"You expect to say love's first kiss or something? Sorry kid, I don't have anything."

We stand in silence before I speak again. "Well, is there a meaning with your name?"

"Heh. I'm a mechanic. Once made this giant monster out of nothing but mechanical cogs. Sold it off to this short fat guy. No idea what he wanted with it, but I was richly paid... in worthless paper."

Short fat guy... giant monster out of cogs... sold it off... does this seem similar to me?

Kaede continues our conversation. "Still not joining? Well then, we have a new way to make you join." She has one of her hands in a cast, but grabs a knife with the other one and threatens Cog. "What's your choice?!"

Cog grabs the sharp point of it, surprisingly not bleeding for some reason, and throws it in the trash bin nearby. "No. For the last time no. Now get your bodies moving and out of here, or I'll kill you two."

"Not doing that. You're gonna join and I say so."

I quickly think fast before it ensues in a fight. "W- we have cookies!"

Cog quickly changes his tune. "Cookies?! Why didn't you say so?! I'm in!" He quickly stands up from his seat.

"Really? That way?" Kaede asks me.

"I'm sure we can get our hands on some chocolate chip cookies!" I reply.

Patriot joined. Now we gotta check on the knights and dees who aren't controlled by the Republic. Kaede is walking Cog back to the place where her and Meta Knight are located, while I walk around searching for anyone else. That's when I bypass the place where Dedede and Magalor were, where some other JumboTrons are playing what appears to be Day on some kind of platform, being held by some soldiers, with Kirby, Ms. Iparis and some woman standing beside them. There seems to be a judge in front of them, too.

"Order Please, order in the crowd." Sheesh, a court outside? Only courts like that my mind knows are basketball courts. Never seen this before. The crowds are shouting until this man barks a command, and everyone goes silent.

He starts talking. "Thank you for your cooperation. I know this is a rather warm morning, so we'll keep the sentencing brief."

Once the man finishes talking about "soldiers present to remind everyone to keep calm," the Judge begins listing Day's crimes, which the Judge bares a striking resemblence to Len Blustergas, the mayor of Cappy Town. Actually, it WAS him!

"In light of the defendant's past felonies," Len starts in his low voice, "and, in particular, his offenses against the glorious nation of the Republic..."

Really, mayor?! Glorious would be vast shame to our own town... I thought this guy loved his own place, and now he betrays it for the Republic? That made me ashamed for a bit, since I basically left Kirby just because Day was captured.

"...the high court of California recommends the following verdict. Day is herby sentenced to death-"

This doesn't surprise me, but I wonder how Kawasaki knew about this? Meanwhile, the crowd does a shower of shouts, and the soldiers hold them off.

"-by firing squad, to be carried out four days from today, on December twenty-seventh at six p.m. Ocean Standard Time, in an undisclosed location, to be prodcast across the city."

Woah, I haven't heard Len speak THAT specifically.

"Civillians are encouraged to stay vigilant for any possible criminal activity that may occur before and after the event, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the street police or to the police headquarters closest to you. This officially concludes out sentencing."

Len gets up and steps away, but the crown is still going wild. I haven't metioned that there was booing, right? Trust me, this surprised me WAY much. Who knew there were fans of this guy? Before the soldiers push Day back inside, he seems to be catching a glimpse at Kirby and Ms. Iparis. While Kirby gives a happy/worried look, Ms. Iparis gives him nothing but a blank stare. Don't know what it may mean, but I sense something out of it. Like she regrets arresting him, or something.

My next stop is the sector where Day's family lived. The 3-lined X still on the door, slammed down. The porch is open, too, and there's weird sounds coming out of it, which sounded like the clank noise inside the metal sheet from before. I went ahead to check it out. There's more metal, of course, but there's another noise inside the other side of the porch. I keep going to check it out. There's a purple party hat over, and just when I was about to touch it, it starts floating, which scares me back. It turns out, it belongs to a ghost.

"Hey!" the ghost said, "What do you think you're doing with MY hat?"

I don't hesitate to reply. "Oh- Sorry sir! I was just curious to-"

"Wait, you're Bandana Waddle Dee, aren't you? You're the guy who is Dedede's favorite dee AND you helped that criminal guy!"

"Well, yeah..."

"Don't see why you're here."

"I was gonna ask you the same thing."

"I'm a Tedhaun! I just slip into places and haunt people. This house seemed like a good fit, since it's run down."

"Well, Tedhaun, this was actually the home for that criminal guy you were talking about."

Tedhaun gives me a surprised look. "Really?"

I shake my head once. "Yep! Anyways, I was looking for any meta knights and waddle dees around that aren't taken by the Republic."

"Don't know what the Republic is, but all I know is that I haven't seen any. Well, except you."

We sit there in a stumped silence until Tedhaun speaks up again.

"Well, what if I were to join?"

"That wouldn't bother Meta Knight much, wouldn't it?"

"Nah. Guy's pretty cool, in my opinion."

"Well then, welcome to the team, Tedhaun! Follow me!"

Tedhaun and I escape the porch, almost bumping into a soldier, then walk around the streets again to find our home base until we bump into someone similar. Tess. Man, it's only been like, what, two days? And yet she looks like a completly different person.

She starts up. "You've heard about-"

"Yep," I reply, "you think he'd be able to escape?"

"Hopefully. He's great at escaping, but I'm starting to have some doubts... Who's your ghost friend, Dee?"

Tedhaun pushes me aside, but as nice as possible. "Tedhaun, the ghost who doesn't matter, at your service for only a very small fraction!"

"Well, Ted, if you let me call you like that..."

"I do not."

"...then maybe you could help me with something?"

I speak up. "We're actually searching for people to join the Patriots! One of my friends are there, you'll enjoy him?"

Tess just gives me a face that's the mix of a smile and a confusing face. "Really? I already did?"

"So that's why you look different..."

"Yep! Anyways, wanna hear out my needs or not?"

Both me and Tedhaun nod.

"Well, we already talked about Day and his escapes, right?"

Tedhaun nods. "Yeah..."

"I have the best idea in my mind, but it has to be kept a secret, or else Kaede will know."

I LOVE secrets, so surely this one was good enough for my brain. "Ooo, ooo, what is it?!" What I say is loud enough to qualify as a shout, but quiet enough to not bring attention.

"We're gonna break Day out of his cell before he gets assassinated, and escape to another place, the four of us."
