My day began normally until I was called to the fourth floor. It was the payroll floor. I rushed up because one of the ladies requested me. Whatever.
Work was work.
Jim said that some of the girls in the building had a crush on me but I think it's because they see me as mysterious. I call it shy. I stayed quiet and alone at work. I didn't require a lot of attention from people. I didn't want attention from people.
I rushed out of the elevator and into a wall of muscle. I was on the floor.
"Mother fu...Watch where you're going, you..." The voice was cursing at me and I was the one on the floor.
I laid there. "Sorry." I groaned as I laid on the floor. "Ouch!" my body hurt. It wasn't designed to fall like that. Okay, so I'm not athletic at all but I figured that the whole hacker geek thing was a clue. Anyway, I'm on the floor.
"Are you okay?" He sounded impatient.
I looked up and stared at Reid Chambers. The CEO's son. "Sure. Ff..Fine. I'm fine!" I rubbed my shoulder. Here's a new note. Reid Chambers is built like a concrete wall and athletic. Pretty much everything that I'm not. And I sounded stupid!
The hulk in man form literally picked me up and put me on my feet. I blushed like a schoolgirl and straightened my dress shirt. "I got it!" I was so embarrassed.
"You look like you had it!" Reid glared at me and then did something terrible. He chuckled. It was deep and gorgeous. It sent heated bubbles through my body. I had heard people say that and read it in stories but it actually happened to me. Actual warmth spread through my body from my legs to my neck and I blushed.
I glared and straightened. "Excuse me." I rushed around him and away. That was enough contact for a lifetime.
The ladies in the office flirted a little but I just fixed the computer and ran back to my cave. I didn't think about Reid Chambers at all the rest of the day nor did I dream about him that night. Nope.
The next Monday I clocked in, got to the elevator and pushed the lit up two for my floor. I was alone which is what I planned until a hand stopped the door from closing. Of course it was Reid Freaking Chambers, why wouldn't it be! I turned red for no reason and wanted to disappear.
Reid was a picture of perfection in his dark suit. It fit him well too. The curve of his butt in those pants combined with the jacket button snugly around his waist was appealing. He was really gorgeous. His sharp blue eyes were... well... gorgeous and his smile caused everyone to drool.
Reid didn't even acknowledge me. He stood there, looking forward without any hint of recognition.
What a douche.
I mean it. I literally ran into him last week, like four days ago. How does he not recognize me? Then he was getting out of the elevator and I realized that I missed my floor.
Nice. I had to press the two again. This means that I rode the elevator all the way to the twenty-fifth floor. Just so you know.
That was my day. I mean I worked and fixed computers and whatever but the highlight was the elevator ride where nothing happened. But the scent that he left in that elevator captured my attention and crawled into my brain.
I would deny my slight crush on Reid Chambers for my whole life. What crush? See?
