We flew for about an hour and then landed. I had no idea where we were.
"We're in Kansas." Reid filled me in.
I thought he was joking. "Yeah, okay!" Sarcasm filled words.
Reid looked at me. "No, really. My family lives in Kansas and it's an hour flight. I get to see them once a month and tonight...well, you'll see!"
"Am I meeting your family?"
Reid shrugged and took our bags with him to a car. No driver. He drove us around to wherever. We stopped at a bed and breakfast, got our room, which was amazing and got ready for lunch.
We walked into a family restaurant and there were probably twenty people sitting at a very extended table. What was this? Reid pulled me close as we walked up. "Everyone, this is my very special friend, Utah."
"Utah, this is everyone!" Reid smirked at me.
"I hate you." I glared at him and said that just so he could hear it. This was his family. Great. He just chuckled.
A woman, his mom, stood. "Is this your boyfriend?" She smiled.
Reid smiled. "I would say yes but he wouldn't. He would say.... I haven't passed the boyfriend hurdles just yet." He winked at me and I was charmed. That bastard.
I blushed and looked down.
"Well, wonderful. Someone to challenge you!" She smiled and laughed a little. "I'm Carol."
I looked up and smiled at her. "Carol, hi. I'm Utah."
"You are so cute!" Carol almost squealed then took my hand and pulled me to the table. I guess I was sitting beside her. Now I know where Reid got his sassiness from. Carol!
"So, this is Raymond, Reid's dad." I had seen him around and he was Reid's twin. I mean dad. "Around the table is Bart, oldest brother and his wife, Kristen. Charles and his partner, Brian, Lola and her hubby, Carl, Justin and the youngest, William. And you know Reid. I can't believe that all of my kids made it!" She was thrilled. They smiled and waved as Carol introduced them.
I blushed and waved a little. "Hi, everyone."
They were really friendly. During dinner, I got the lowdown on everyone as Lola started a conversation with me. She looked more like Carol with fair hair and skin. She looked very delicate with pretty black reading glasses around her neck, like some old lady, which she wasn't.
"So, you are Hex!" Lola smiled at me.
I stared at her. No one called me that in real life. "Oh!" I blushed. "I am."
Lola sat closer to me. "And you broke my code?"
I looked at my plate and inhaled.
Reid leaned into me. "He did! Hot, huh!"
Lola laughed at her brother. "Totally!" She winked at me. They all seemed to have a wonderful sense of humor that I loved.
I laughed with them. "I just... I love challenges. I was ready for a change in my life."
Lola smiled. "I understand that, Utah. May I call you Hex? I'm sorry but you are like a superhero at work! Everyone knows who you are!" She blushed.
I stared at her. "Seriously?"
Lola laughed. "Seriously!" She squealed. "Sorry! Like really! I am dying to ask for your autograph to shove it in their faces!"
I laughed and signed my napkin with my user name and Hex autograph. It was my signature code that Hex was known for.
