I woke up too early and stumbled into the kitchen. It was so great in this house. I never felt so safe. I grabbed a Dew and ate a bagel as Jim walked in with a big yawn.
"Morning!" I smiled at him.
"Morning." Jim made coffee. He just stuck a pod in and his coffee was done in a minute. "So, I haven't seen you all week. How are you?"
I yawned. "Good. How are you? How was your week?"
Jim chuckled. "Good. There was one day that I left the office for lunch, per my boss's instruction. I came back a little early to talk with my girl and I heard something. Any ideas?" He dropped a few buttons on the counter. Reid's buttons from the shirt I destroyed.
I blushed. "Nope." I did have ideas. "I hate you!"
Jim laughed. "How are things with Reid?"
"Good. He's amazing, Jim! I mean it. Our first official date was brunch with his family!" I smiled. "They seem nice. Raymond interrogated me." I shivered at that thought.
"Reid told me that you didn't pass out or run! You're getting better." Jim smiled. Thought he was sooo funny.
I rolled my eyes. "Sure. When do I get to meet your girlfriend?"
Jim sighed. "Never."
"Never! Come on! What's this about?" I stared at him.
"Cause you're gonna get mad." Jim stated. "It just happened one day. She came looking for you and I was home. It's been months and I took her to dinner and we hit it off."
"Who is she?" I glared at him. "Angie? Tara?" These were my only friends.
"Abby." Jim said the name really fast, like a band aid.
I stood. "I'm sorry I asked!" I walked out and rushed upstairs. So, Abby was my younger sister. One of them. The people that weren't so nice to me. I mean I left the house and no one came looking. I worked at the restaurant for six years, through college and not once did they enter. Not once did any of them search for me. Fuck Abby!
I was so caught up in my thoughts and tears that a soft knock on my door made me jump. "Fuck you, Jim! Go to hell!" I yelled at the door. "Go, be with Abby!" I threw a shoe at the door as it opened. Reid caught it and I gasped.
"Kitten?"
"Reid! Shit!" I just cried harder as Reid surrounded me.
"What happened?"
"Jim! He's..." I broke down and just cried onto Reid. "Sorry!"
"It's okay. Go ahead and cry. Tell me when you're ready." Reid sat on the bed with me in his lap. Our height difference wasn't that significant but I felt so small. It was nice.
I got control pretty quickly. "I'm better. Sorry!" I wiped my face and looked up at him. "Shit! Do we have reservations! I'm not ready!"
Reid shrugged. "We don't. This is casual and we have all day. Talk to me. What happened?"
"Jim is dating my sister, Abby. He just told me and they've been dating for months, Reid!" A tear was caught on his finger before it could fall. "They hate me and he's dating one of them behind my back. He's lied to me all this time and I thought we were friends!"
"Want me to fire him?" Reid was serious.
I stared at him. "You would do that?" They were friends.
"For you." Reid nodded.
I chuckled. "Thought you didn't run your business with emotions!" I teased him.
He smiled at me and I was better.
"Don't do that. I'm just emotional and probably overreacting. Just give me a few days to think this through. Jim knows how I am. It's not the first time he's pissed me off." I sighed and leaned into Reid. "I have a headache."
"Let's get you a Dew and get going. I have things planned for you, Kitten." Reid threatened.
I smiled. "Let me use the bathroom and get myself together. What do I wear?"
"I have that taken care of also, Kitten. What you have on is fine." Reid smiled a gentle smile as I stood up with him. "I'll be in the kitchen." He walked out.
I did my bathroom stuff and changed into nicer clothes just for Reid and walked downstairs. I heard Reid talking to Jim.
"Reid, it wasn't on purpose and I wanted to tell him right away. Then he got with you, I haven't seen him in a month!" Jim sighed as Reid chuckled.
"Fair." Reid sighed. "Okay. I just don't like coming into the house with my kitten that upset, Jim. He's very hurt. You have to talk with him but not today. Let him cool off."
"I know. I'll wait. Is he okay?" Jim sighed. "I feel horrible!"
"You should but he's okay. Get out of here before cat scratch fever gets down here!" Reid warned him.
I walked in. "Too late. Can we talk later, Jim?" I took a breath as Reid handed me a Dew.
Jim nodded. "Okay. I am sorry." He looked so worried that it broke me.
"I'm overreacting. Give me a couple of days." I was being logical.
"Reid is good for you. Are we still friends?" Jim had tears.
I rushed to him and hugged him. "Yes! You're my brother and we're gonna fight. We're gonna get mad. I have issues with my family and you know that, so just give me some time." I released him and backed up. "I'm okay and we're leaving. I'm going to cool down." I lost enough family, I wasn't losing Jim over something so stupid but I was angry.
Jim nodded. "Okay."
"Okay." I agreed and Reid and I left. Not the morning I was hoping for but it was not boring.
