CODEX: THE KOVENANT IMPERIAL ARMY.

Electronic Warfare Unit.

In the 51st Millennium and especially in the seemingly endless galactic scales wars that the Kovenant found itself fighting for hundreads of thousands of years, the Kovenant and many other factions have been using both Electronic and Cyber Warfare units for untold millenia, over the course of thousands of years of galactic scale war, the capabilities of Electronic and Cyber warfare units has increased significantly and they have become a more and more common sight with armies and the Kovenant Imperial Wehrmacht is no acception to this and it maintains and actively uses both Electronic and Cyber warfare units in both its Military as well as for protection of Civilian, Government and Military networks from attack.

It is a common misconception that both Electronic and Cyber warfare units are under the direct control of the Wehrmacht, there is truth to this, as Electronic and Cyber warfare units are indeed under the preview of the Wehrmacht. However, they were assigned to the Reich Intelligence Service, which is a sub branch of the military that works in intelligence and counter intelligence and often worked along side all of the major branches of the Wehrmacht. Including the Imperial Army, Luftwaffe, Aquamarine and Kriegsmarine.

Because of this fact, it is more correct to see Electronic and Cyber warfare units as units being assigned to other branches as a necessity on the battlefield. To protect Military communications and other systems might be attacked by enemy EW and CW units. As well as to try and break into the enemy systems themselves to either attack systems or simply collect intelligence.

Note:
Cyber Warfare units in particular can also attack Civilian, Government and other networks on enemy worlds and the enemy can do the same for the Kovenant Empire, but this systems both Civilian and Government would be so exceedingly well defended and monitored by dedicated units, that this would be a long term fight and might not even succeed most the time.

Recruitment.

Recruitment into this Electronic and Cyber warfare units was focused primarily on those who have great intelligence, patience, as well as having a deep understanding and interesting in both Electronic and Cyber systems.
As such, the vast majority of this Electronic and Cyber warfare troops would be very young men and women alongside the occasional adult and older commanding officer.

Most of those who were selected would find themselves being reassigned to this units to recieve training from older, more experienced Electronic and Cyber warfare troopers and training often involved alot of technical training, which often took time to train in.
Both for EW and CW units.

However training also includes writing reports, and other more basic functions.
Training often lasted 1 - 2 years, which was deemed to be an acceptable time frame for training such specialised soldiers.

Once their training was over, than they will have been assigned to their units.

For Electronic Warfare units, they will be assigned straight away to the frontlines with their EW units.

And for Cyber Warfare units, this men and women would be assigned to their individual planets and Hive Cities to protect Civilian, Government and Military networks and ensure continued security.

Note:
Cyber Warfare units are reasonably sized. Each unit consisting of 1000 Members each and an individual planet could have tens of thousands of them protecting the whole planet from enemy CW units as well.

Electronic warfare unit organisation.

Electronic Warfare units were often assigned to all branches of the Wehrmacht.
That meant that this men and women would often see action with almost all major branches of the Wehrmacht. They could be assigned to either the Imperial Army, Luftwaffe, Aquamarine or Kriegsmarine and even be temporarily assigned to special forces units to provide more technical assistance.
