Everyone in the town of Brooks were on pins and needles. Everyone was waiting for one thing. Off-script. The schools continued, the shops opened...and yet...nothing.
Meanwhile, the Blanc siblings and the Canterbury cousins were getting ready for war. "Let's do this" Daniel said solemnly. Lily, Noah and Annie nodded firmly. Annie opened the cupboards and took out the bowls. Lily got the Flour, eggs and butter while Noah looked at the recipe. He underlined 'Jessie's birthday cake' with a red marker twice and was smacked by a wooden spoon. "What?" asked Annie innocently as Noah gave her a glare. A few minutes later, Lily started to mix the new batter. "This is actually pretty easy" she remarked.
The cake was really good, considering that none of them had ever cooked a cake before. Daniel insisted on 'necessary precautions' and kept a phone in the fruit bowl in case they had to call 911.
Putting the cake inside the box, they hurried to Jessie's house. Her step brother, Chris answered the door. "Jes went to the movies with Mike" he said after he let them in. The decorations were already put up and they quickly placed the cake on the table. "I suggest you all freshen up. You still have some flour here darling" Mrs. Nolan said as she wiped Lily's cheek.
The doorbell rang and they jumped. They looked at each other and Mrs. Nolan ran to get the door. Noah turned the lights off while the Lily, Jessie and Daniel scrambled inside an enormous box. Noah quickly jumped in with them. Chris was inside a teddy bear. Strictly speaking his mother sewed the teddy bear costume for his size but he was thankful he wasn't in the box.
"Ouch...it's too tight"
"Can't...breath"
"Just a few seconds more..."
"Dan did you even brush your teeth?"
"Of course I did Lil!"
"Quiet you idiots"
Jessie was excitedly explaining the movie to her stepmother and her father. She turned the light on and got the surprise of her life. A birthday cake, a giant teddy bear and an enormous box was in the living room. She gasped and immediately hugged her parents. Then she felt someone hug her. She looked around and shrieked. "It's possessed!" she said, pointing at the teddy bear. The bear put his paws to his hips. "Possessed?" Chris's voice asked, offended.
Jessie snorted. Her step brother was certainly something. There came a sneeze from the box and a collective groan. "Seriously Dan...you couldn't hold it in?" asked Lily. Jessie opened the box and saw her friends squished together. She laughed. "Happy Birthday!" Annie yelled, and tackled Jessie into a hug.
The doorbell rang again. Everyone looked confused, especially Mrs. Nolan. Who else was invited for today's party? They all hurried towards the door.
Outside was their next door neighbour, pale as a sheet. He didn't say anything but showed them a magazine. Jessie took it and read it aloud.
